    Nothing much has changed, except the fact that now crappy content is not given much importance by search engines like it used to be in the early days.
    Blog commenting, link exchanges with related sites, forum signature links etc. are still working like they were in the past. there are a lot of power tools in the market like "Seo Power Suite" to reduce manual work in research purposes. You will find many more if you look around.
