ESET NOD32 Antivirus, or if you want the full suite, ESET Smart Security. If you want total control over what your antivirus software does, use Kaspersky.

As always, when I say "virus" I think a utility that protects against all forms of malware, not just viruses. Trojans, spyware, rootkits, keyloggers, adware, scareware - a decent antivirus should address all these.

Kaspersky has been to it top from years in the antivirus spot. I would suggest to have Kaspersky for system health.

Microsoft security essentials is great, but like all antivirus it has not internet security. using Malwarebytes to scan system from time to time is really good enough beside Microsoft security essentials.

I have used Avast, Avira, AVG, Spy Doctor, and some others, but I am pretty happy with Microsoft Security Essentials. I use Malwarebytes along with it also and make sure everything stays up to date.

Ubuntu may be popular for newbies.:D I've been using Linux for years and use other distros such as Pclinux. Telling people not to use virus software isn't very smart and I wouldn't recommend it.
