2008 Stock Market Predictions - Technology Companies Will Prosper?

Gold prices are very near a 1980 record high when you adjust for inlflation. The U.S. dollar index is down big. Financial and credit companies are falling and home prices are crashing. Healthcare companies are struggling to come up with medicines that do anything new. However, I think tech companies have plenty of room to grow and will prosper in 2008 and keep the most of the world out of a depression. What do you think?

Financial companies are one of the largest buyer of tech goods which could dampen their run this year along with the overall economy.

IBM and other tech companies, such as Sun Micro, are showing some strength, but the recession isn't going to be very helpful.

I've been looking into green technologies (battery technology - GBT for example). I figure they might survive the down times since we will definitely need them. However I'm new to investing and I could be way off.

I take it you want to invest in battery makers for automobiles? In either care the issue with battery technology is that no one figured out how to increase the storage and strength of batteries with making them blow up.

I don't think a depression just yet. Im a bit worried as the Australian markets went down five days in a row. No actually it was 8 days.

But then again, if the American market doesn't go into a recession. The other markets will go gang busters.

Invest in Oil companies. They are all going to make a killing once the oil price touches 150$ per barrel. And its gonna happen very soon.

Not necessarily, in the 90-91 recession stocks actually rose during the recession.

I'm much more interested in cleaner environmentally conscious alternative energy companies like ESLR, for example. This is where the real longterm growth is at. Solar technology is finally getting close enough to start to compete with coal and fossil fuels. Within a year or two, you'll see solar panels showing up on more and more houses and businesses and the demand for companies like Evergreen will skyrocket.

LOL, thats quite ironic. I heard of a guy who makes more money in recessions than during normal stock market periods. Quite ironic.

In a crash tech doesn't do well. Look at 1987 and 2001

The markets are heading down and does not seem to be doing well, I think the expectations of a recession has increased in Wall Street, in such a market, buy defensive stocks, these will weather best in a recession. Technology stocks is a no no in a recession. Companies will be the first to cut R&D or tech upgrades during a recessions.

I don't think tech companies will prosper if there's a recession. There are much more important things people need during such a period...like weapons :). Considering how so many countries arm heavily arm themselfs I think the weapons industry will do pretty well
