Does the strength of the link diminish as more people post in a thread?

What strength? DP signature links have almost zero strength to begin with.

I was told that most forums including this one have no follow tags and do nothing? However i have also noticed Google listing my sig as a back link so which is it I ask?

In my experience, very few forums use nofollow. I'm sure the day will come when most new forum software has nofollow as default, as most blog software currently does, and then we'll see a dramatic decrease in the use of forum signatures.

Thanks for clearing that up . I made a post awhile back about using sigs to gain traffic and help backlinks and i was slammed pretty hard and told I was ignorant and stupid for even suggesting such a thing. It was more then one person saying this so my comment to them was "then why do you have links in your sig" they did not comment bsck.

Google definitely picks up DP sig links, do they help serps though? One thing is for sure, they don't hurt.

Maybe I haven't used them enough but generally I don't really see a difference coming from Forum Signatures.

I don't see signature links as being too great for SEO link building purposes. Some forums (like this one) are pretty good for getting sites or pages indexed, but after that, where's the value coming from?

Take this thread - lots of outbound links on a forum topic that is never likely to get much PR (not that you should be link building for the sake of PR) or much weight in general. The benefits would seem negligible, and I suspect that (on a per forum basis) since all the signature links are coming from the same domain, building up many links on one forum won't have much extra benefit either. And as already stated, many forums now have nofollow tags (which I think is a sensible move).

I believe that the real value of signature links is from the clicks you can get through to your websites, not the link building value.

Google definitely picks up DP sig links and it got my 'seo report' to no.1 in google. One thing I would recommend though is changing the anchor text regularly, more links to more pages!

I may have missed it somewhere in this thread if someone already brought this up but here goes my two cents anyway:

Forum sigs can indeed help get pages and sites indexed but unless the topic on the page is related to your links it doesn't really matter much. The more complex search engines also evaluate the text on every page to see and gauge how it correlates to the link and if the anchor text within a link is relevant to the topic on the page. If the link and anchor text is not topically related to the rest of the page the search engines do not place much weight on it. Will they follow it? Yes. Will 10,000 posts on one forum take you to the top for very competitive keywords? Not very likely because the link strength isn't there. This is part of "Latent Semantic Indexing".

In the loosest sense of the word, Yes they are good for link building, After all, Every time you post you get another link. But the links you get from it are useless. Google knows what signatures are and they know how easy it is to get these links, So anyone with any sense will know that they aren't going to carry much weight, If any.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, Let's see if anyone listens this time.
Links are about quality, Not quantity
