    I have a free books online website. I need a plan for how to get traffic to my site. Other than buying traffic, what do you suggest? Winner will get $20 in paypal money. This contest ends on April 9, 2011

    You can download back linking tools which will help you get a good rank and some traffic from search engines. Y
    You can also create a video of your site and spread it around YouTube.
    You can also spread your site link in all the forums you've joined in the past on your user profile and signature.
    You can also search for articles similar to your site and post your link there.

    If you maybe heard of scrapebox, there are guys that provide blog commenting for a cheap price.
    You might wanna look in buy/sell/trade section. Also I have seen someone offer this same kind of service I think it was 1000 blog comments for 5$ on fiverr and he had a great feedback so you can try that guy to. Try and look on fiverr if you need to go in cheap on this one.

    Anyways a simple answer on this is then (build backlinks do-follow and high PR).

    - Create a Facebook page for your website
    - Join groups/forums/message boards relating to your website
    - Post your site on free advertising forums/boards. Creating your own message board also helps
    - Join topsite lists online relating to your website
    - Create quality content and update your website regularly in order for viewers to come back to the site
    - Add pages so that visitors can interact on the site for example: feedback forms/polls/guestbook
    - Exchange links with other sites relating to your website
    - newsletter form (I recommend aweber). When your visitors subscribe to your newsletter you can easily let them know by email when you have updated your website, that way your visitors will return to your site regularly. You can also send your subscribers special offers etc...
    - If you have money to spare, you can pay for advertising at popular directories/search engines etc

    The best way to gain traffic would be to interact with other people/site owners who have a website like yours. Hope this helps and goodluck!
