Idiotic. That gunman spent 20 minutes in that school. One armed guard might have detered the entire event from ever happening, and even if it had not, it would likely have kept the casualty count under 5,

 

Let's see now 100,000 public schools in the United States. Let's pay the armed guards 50 grand a year. In that 50 grand we'll include all the training, big bad guns - no wait - these are good guns, some of them bullet proof vests they'll need, ammo, and they'll need 100 bullet straps in case there are 2 or three baddies etc, etc. What's that come to? About 1/2 Trill? No problem, the country can afford that. No price is too high as long as the gunnies keep their guns.

NO. Use off-duty police officers. They are the only ones with the proper training. Pay them a 15 grand a year supplement to their existing salaries.

Remember that everyone agrees that these homicidal loons are all cowards that go where they know there is no opposition. So just having an armed off-duty police officer at a school will prevent further tragedies from ever occurring again, because the loons won't show up.

I didn't know that. How in the world did he get to spend 20 minutes at the school? Didn't the school have "panic buttons"? Gee, every bar has one, and we certainly have more bars than schools.

 

This is based on a radio interview with one of the teachers who survived. There were series of shots followed by long delays. Her perception could be somewhat skewed, but her timeline was roughly 20-25 minutes.

Bob: trying to think like a cheap right winger I suggested a total cost of $40,000/per one armed guard/per public school versus your generous $50k. Now that will never pass legislation. The right wingers want to cut costs. They like having teachers fired. They get positively excited by depressed minimum wage rates.
