I have a site which is acutally 13 years old i bought it two years ago. It already had a lot of back links. All i did was submit high quality articles with my keywords to blogs and article directories. Sites that have 1000's of blog comments and are only 8 months old are out ranking me. what is wrong do you think google gave me a penalty? I never ranked higher than page 8 for my keyword. Why would I get penalized when I submitted high quality articles and other people are spamming blog comments and are beating me what wrong?

no it's maybe not because you got penalty but just the way you do SEO for your keyword is wrong. My site is only 9 months old but i beat a lot of competitive keyword. Even with the site over 5 years old. So good luck trying other type of SEO method

Probable reason why your site is not ranking high is that, your keywords might not be back linked with relevant content. So that can be probable reason and i would prefer you to work specific and highly relevant keywords put some good back links on these keywords.:) your rank will increase if work in the same area.

I would say keyword usage, along with how many links you have on your site they may think your just spamming posts and links.

    Have you done "over-optimization"?

    - Did you vary the anchor text in backlinks?
    - Did you have links from various sources?
    - Did you have links from many type of websites?
    - Did you have any cross linking between your own websites?
    - Did you have link from authority sources?
    - Did you have link from relevant websites? or from authority website in your niche, considered as "hub".

Yeah might be due to google thinking your site is spammy. You need to use different anchor texts in your links and limit the number of links you create a day

Realistically it's impossible to say anything with no URL. Provide the URL otherwise you'll get just guessing.

You're definately penalized based on what you told us. If you provide the link then we can troubleshoot what's wrong. Alternatively you could sign up for a Google webmaster account. Which will send you messages for some penalties.

Its really shocking from optimization point of view. Perhaps we need to set some criteria during optimizations. If you find any reason behind this please share with us.

I think you did overload on-page and off-page work.
