You are right, although my keyword didn't encounter much searches per month, it's kind of inspiring to get ranked 1st over 7 million sites!

 

I knew a guy that was bragging about ranking top in SEO terms, only to find out that no one was searching for those terms. Consequently, he sat there wondering why he was ranking so well, but not getting any sales. It's a great accomplishment, but also one that probably won't bring in much traffic or sales for you. The key would be to do some research up front about which keywords to target and go after those. The long tail keywords are the easiest to capture with the least amount of competition because they're almost worthless. But keep at it, because it is a great start.

How many searches are you actually getting from that keyword? I run a website on the front page for the term "online money making" which is significantly more searched.

 

I didn't read every reply in this thread, so forgive me if this has already been said.

I think you are missing one important point. You say that you are number 1 out of over 7 million sites for a 5 word phrase. Unless you put the term in quotes, Google will show you every site that contains any 1 of those words. 7 million isn't so impressive anymore, is it?

As it has been pointed out already, if no one is searching that 5 word phrase, what good is it doing you?

I think people are getting carried away with long tail keywords. There are many factors involved that have to be considered.

Considering the level of competition AND search volume, one could easily ascend the ranks with ease while not increasing traffic or sales.

It does feel great to be at the top, but without the reward, it may be depressing.

 

Not to take anything away from you, but as others have stated. The term is not worth anything, and the number of search results is not accurate in determining how valuable a term is.

I still say congrats whether or not that search term is searched alot because I know what this can do for your website.. It just opens doors.. because now Google recognizes your website.. and so now its for you to try an get ranked for other keywords and keyword phrases related to your website and you will definitely see some traffic coming in..
