2 sites, same hosting company, question!

    What an awful title, sorry about that....

    My question;

    I have two sites that concentrate on the same niche. I want to get them both into the top ten in Google. Will it matter that both sites use the same hosting company and are both registered to me?

    The reason I am doing this is because I want to try out different SEO strategies with each site.

    This should be no problem if these sites don't have duplicate content.

    Having multiple IP's will only increase your rank in Google if both websites link to eachother.

    I can only agree with this ;)
    This won't touch your position, but if they have same IP and link together will decrease the SERP a little bit.. but not that mucj-h ;)

    No, it won't matter, and you shouldn't worry about linking them to each other. Even if you have different Class C IP addresses or Web hosting providers, Google does have access to the WHOIS database (being that it is a domain registrar) and will know that you own both sites that are linking to each other.

    With that being said, you could have different registrant names, but make sure they're all legitimate. If any of the domains become contested, ICANN will rule in favor of the person or company whose name is in the registrant field. And if that name is fake, well you can kiss that domain name goodbye because you WILL lose it. (Yes, that includes the WHOIS masking services that hide your identity - you're basically saying that your domain registrar OWNS the domain name YOU REGISTERED.) The only way to legally have multiple registrants while still belonging to the same person would be to create a separate company for each domain name - and that will entail the various legal forms, DBA (Doing Business As) notices, taxes, and all sorts of other things you don't want to have to mess around with just to get around the possession issue.     In other words, it's not worth the effort, especially if you get caught.

    Actually you could. I forgot to mention things like trademark infringement (and other cases where you'd lose the domain name even if you were the one listed in the "Registrant" field). ;)
