I've come across a problem with the (very useful) keyword tracker tool. For a few search terms I'm monitoring, the tracker shows a consistently lower rank than I see with Google searches. I know differences of a few places can arise due to different data centres, and that temporary ups and downs are to be expected - but my results have been like this (for some terms) for a couple of months now. I've realised what the issue is: the search gives two pages from the same domain in the Google results (one ranked around 3 one around 28). The keyword tracker has locked on to the one at 28. When it checks for ranking changes, I think it starts at the last known position for the term (generally a sensible strategy!). BUT - because the 3 and 28 rankings have both been pretty stable for a few months, it means the tracker always locks onto the 28th position result, and I can't find a way to "kick it" to find the higher ranked 3 position. If I deleted the term and added it from scratch that might work, but then I'd lose all my historical data for the term. Any way round this? Howard
What is the use of historical incorrect data? use any proxy site(s) to get a third angle. If that proves your theory, just delete the keyword!
I've got about 4 years worth of data for that search term (on several search engines/sites). It's only the last 2 months or so that the values have been incorrect, so I don't want to throw away 4 years worth of good data for the sake of 2 months of suspect rankings. Howard
