2 related domains - what to do?

Let's say I developed the domain dognews.net (fictive name) over the past year. Everything is fine, good rankings on 'dog news', etc.

Now let's say I recently acquired dog.net. I plan to develop a full-fledged portal for dog owners, etc. However, this will take about a year.

What to do with the domain in the meantime? Put a 'in development' page with a link to dognews.net? 302 redirect? Something else? What would be best to rank higher for 'dog'?

    Thanks

You could also just syndicate the content from your older news site onto the portal.

I would suggest a temporary page, like a sindicated one, for example, keeping an eye on duplicates.

Not sure if a 301 to be a good idea. Redirect have been a problem sometimes with Google, and they have warned they'll try to fix this. I wouldn't use a redirect, and never a 302, with can be very bad.
