2 questions about keywords

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to forum hosting.

I have a forum which is a couple of weeks old and would like to add some keywords to increase it's search ranking.

I am just a little clueless as to what exactly a keyword is in the context of a website. ie. where do I add it? Is it the same as the Meta tags which I have added?

Secondly, could anyone tell me where i can find the rankings for specific key words?

Thanks in advance for any help!

A keyword or keyphrase in the context of your web site is any word or phrase that appears on the page. So in your case and based on the name of your site a lot of your keyphrases will be based around the term "alpine".

As for rank checking, you will need to use a third party tool for doing that. There are a lot on the market but one of the better ones is Rank Tracker: http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-tracker/

I don't know of any free ones which actually provide good results I'm afraid.

If you want to know the ranking for your specific keyword, Go to Google engine where you put your keyword in it thus Google engine will search and provide the list of keywords in the Search engine. Press ctrl + f4 where you can add your company url and then click the url. In this way you can find the keyword ranking

keywords are the terms we type into search

If your forum targets the term 'business forum' you can type this into Google and see where you are listed.

If you find yourself in first position you will need to log out of Google and clean your cache (CCleaner is good) Google can skew the results you see (personalisation)

    Good luck

That is a pretty handy trick. However, it is Ctrl F actually. F4 closes the tab. Now I can check how much keyword density my competitors pages have.

I personally use another browser. I use Chrome for working on my site, while I use Firefox just for checking rankings.
