2 Pagerank changes in 3 weeks. Whats going on?

    Hi,
We waited a long time for the google pagerank update. When it came about three weeks ago I had dropped from a 6 to a 5. Not so bad considering changes that had been made to the site including dropping the Yahoo Directory Listing as I couldn't get any response out of them to changing the title of the site.
Now the site seems to have dropped again under a second update. Does anyone have any ideas as to what google are doing?
It hasn't affected my SERP position so I guess it really doesn't matter, but most of my sites are still waiting for their 'August Update' and here I have 1 site with 2 updates in 3 weeeks.

There has been no official toolbar pagerank update recently.

Darren at problogger.net got a down shift in page rank, 6-5, NY times too got a down shift, and copyblogger too.

I think this PR update is taking account of whether you had been selling text link as well. Hence the down shift.

Or else, this is temporary. Lets observe...

Who the hell knows what they are up to!

Maybe they are trying to give all the bloggers out there a bit of ashake up if there is suspicion of link selling???

Its hard to say unless youre on the inside :)

The main thing is that the reduction in pagerank has not affected ranking position. This is as good an indication that pagerank as an seo indicator means very little if anything at all...unless you are selling links.
I think my overall rank was downgraded because i changed the interlinking structure of the site and this effectively evened out the pagerank across the site. It is still a mystery why this should happen twice in 3 weeks though

I agree, I am not selling links so I don't really care about PR. As long as I am ranking who cares about a dumb green bar?

Yes. They should do it to. If you are selling links and not using the ref="nofollow" tag then you should reap whatever you have coming.

Also, so everyone knows, pagerank is ALWAYS updating, its the toolbar that is updating at different times. Your pagerank is always changing and I see pagerank changes well before the toolbar every does.

Get off the pagerank craze already! :D

i think google will only update most of the sites PR early next year. i guess they dont' wan't to spoil christmas celebration. just take a look what what we heard when only 2 or 3 sites losing their PR. just can't imagine how the internet community would react when all of them losing the rank all at the same time.

Pagerank is a measure of value...OK
Funnily enough another measure of value was invented a few hundreds years ago by some folks in Lombardy.......money
Difference is that money is also a medium of exchange

If you cannot exchange value then there is no value. As page rank does not affect search results positioning then what is it for....but to taunt all of us!!!

having a PR8 site must now be like holding the winning lottery ticket but never being able to cash it!

If you are not selling links then check three things Tigle Tag, Keyword density in document text, Keywords in anchor text. Try to get backlinks in natural way.

Thats the point. I remain at the top of Page 1 in the results for the biggest keyword in the market showing that the PR doesn't affect SERP at all.

As a sign of value it means nothing if you cant exchange it.

A 40 carat diamond isnt much good if your starving and your not allowed to sell it to buy food!!
