May 10 (Bloomberg) -- Two British men received prison sentences for leaking a secret memo about a 2004 meeting between U.S. President George Bush and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair about the war in Iraq. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601102&sid=arfJTW28MgJk&refer=uk OK Fair enough they got a penal sentence Then the Judge says The pair must serve half their sentences, the judge said. Comments :-
What is the normal procedure in Britain? In the U.S., we have a split system. If you are sentenced in state court, you normally serve only a small portion of your sentence. If you are sentenced in a federal court, you serve all or almost all of your sentence. One is going serve 6 weeks and the other is going to serve 12 weeks for risking the lives of British service members? I guess you guys don't think much of your troops.
Both USA and Britain courts takes the decision...Now, the decision is given it makes sense if it is given seeing upto what level the information leaked, observing condition.
You are right on the money there Will I agree 100% normally they have to serve 2 1/3rds of the sentence so 6 months is normally 4 months to serve. But in this case they slash the sentence to half, the mind boggles at such decision by Judges
Much like Sandy "Pants" Berger....people who do things to benefit the liberal side of the world don't get anything but a slap on the wrist, while more conservative individuals would get the book thrown at them.
