OK... so nobody seems to believe my first contribution as a good will freshman offering to the DP gods for acceptance into the circle...

    So.. here goes another one.

+ Google weights every results page
In other words... If you show up #10 in page one under "Brittany Spears" and get 100 CTs/Sec... BUT the #1 spot on the same page one only does 101 CTs/sec...

Then.. you will be the new king o the Brittany Spears hill.

It's all about the title and description tag at this point.

shep, so you think that each postition and Click through on page one is not inversely weighted by position? Just try changing your headline to one that more people click on. GUARANTEED. Your rank will jump up.

Sorry, I actually just don't understand your writing and couldn't take it seriously. It's not that I don't understand the concept, I just can't understand what you've written in this and the other post and thought it was deliberate..!

That's called "selling the click" in the title tag. I put "Stop Scrolling" next to the keyword in the meta descriptions tag, it shows up as a snippet on Google and Yahoo, and sells the click. (I do it in the title as well)

Not sure if CTR is weighed for position or not, but I will ask @ Stompernet and post the answer here.

Btw, I posted my Social Bookmarking site in my signature below if anyone wants some free do-follow backlinks. (no porn, gambling, pharmacy or illegal downloads allowed) it's PR0 but my team is building links to it right now.

Yes many have said that and we know that after it's been said 1000's of times before.

If the title tag and description tags (and keywords in url) don't match what the users searches for you won't get so many visitors as those sites that do unless you have a good google PR (if google is your target).

That's a couple of the basic "lego type" building blocks of SEO that 98% of readers here know.

It's old one, and you could never manage to increase your own ranking unless you have hundreds or even thousands of friends who do the same search and click only on your listings in the SERP's ;)

Forget to add one more thing, if you have applied Google Analytics nor currently using Google Toolbar then Bounce Rate and Time on site might becomes a factor on few competitive phrases..
Not yet official but it seems to be a new feature though ;)

He's talking about the CTR affecting the serps position, no this has not been talked about 1000's of times before. I don't know if it's true or not, but I'll ask the experts @ Stompernet

NO NO... im not saying that ranking is based on title and description. IT IS OBVIOUSLY. BUT what I AM SAYING HERE in the PARTICULAR POINT is that the title and description may get you to SOMEWHERE on page one...

but im herein saying that if you get a higher clickthrough than the link above you... then you will move up the ranks based on WEIGHTED CLICK THROUGHS. Google page one is on a BELL CURVE.

Restated... if the tenth link on page one gets as many clicks as the first link on the SAME page one... then google will move #10 to #1.

sparkah is saying that Google also uses the number of clicks on an item on a search results page to rank sites and pages. If you are #10 and you get more clicks than #1 (which is unlikely), Google will boost your ranking.

I don't know if I agree or not.

very interesting. how do you know this is in the algorithm? or are you speculating? it makes a lot of sense for trying to determine which pages are valuable but it seems that for a non-competitive keyword, clicking your own page a few times (or if they keep track of ip addresses, enlisting a few friends' help) could get you to #1. would google allow something that could be manipulated like that?
