That is absolutely false. Every accepted and rejected submission gets an email notice. If you did not receive your notice then you did not provide a real email addy.

The rejection notice from the BDC Concepts Directory looks like this:

    Your submission:

    Title: <%title%>
    URL: <%url%>
    Description: <%description%>
    Category: <%category%>
    Contact name: <%contact_name%>
    Email: <%email%>

has been declined. This may have been caused by one or more of the following reasons:

    - submission is not categorized properly (number 1 reason)
    - submitted URL did not resolve to domain (redirected somewhere else)
    - website used popups or other intrusive services
    - adult content in a non-adult category
    - the site is under construction or not production ready
    - website is primarily an affiliate portal
    - an editor has taken objection to the website content

If you would like to appeal the decision please contact the editorial manager.

    Regards,

    BDC Concepts Directory Team

    Code (markup):
The one for the other directory uses similiar verbiage.

As is plainly stated in the rejection notice the main reasons for rejection is that it was not submitted to the correct category and/or the site is primarily an affiliate portal.

It is not the job of our editors to cateogrize your site properly...that is YOUR job. If your site is primarily affiliate and little or no content it will be rejected regardless of proper category.

Don't try to place the blame for rejection of your site and lack of notification on the directory. Everyone gets a status email and if you didn't then a good email address should have been given.

Maybe I'm in a bad mood and feel a little sharp tongued but if there are pages of forum members that have been accepted within minutes or hours of their submission do you honestly think your site was singled out to be rejected and why? Could you refresh my memory as to your URL? Maybe the members will visit your site and agree or disagree that the site offers valuable content that should be listed. I have no issues with defending the decisions of the editorial staff but will also listen to the members of this forum.

The directory is for the people, by the people, and of the people. If they offer feedback we will adjust acceptance (and rejection) criteria on the fly.

    Cordially,

    Bobby

I have to agree. That is a false statement. There is a nice rejection letter that comes via email. If you are rejected, you get a response that you were and why. They are very responsive, so just contact them if you have a problem with your rejection and you may just find you get listed.

    Good luck!

You means this is a reply of reason? It is a list of reasons I think...

May you tell me how can I guess the reason of rejection correctly???
I doubt the no.1 reason is I have not placed a link back to your site yet...

You are correct...that is a list of reasons.

How do you guess which one fits your submission rejection? How about you visit your site? Better yet -> post a link to your website and let the members review it. If they say it should be listed I'll reverse the decision of my editors and give you a free premium listing. Until then the decision stands and it was rejected for valid reason. So, unless you post your link and let others review it to verify that my editors are doing their job properly you have no basis for argument.

Don't even try and bring up the fact of recip link back to the directory. We don't care if you link back (but appreciate the ones that do) and don't use that as review criteria. We strive to offer the best free web directory service available on the internet. How many directories do you know of that have live help to ensure your site is categoried properly? Ask the ones that have contacted the live help...each operator has a copy of AdWord Analyzer installed and also does keyword research for those that want / need it. This is a free service and nobody is charged a fee...it's all in the hope that it will be useful and generally increase the quality of submissions and listings for the site owners.

Not only do we go the extra mile for webmaster service but also upgrade free submissions to premium when the content is useful, unique, or entertaining. As an example, the member above submitted his site and was reviewed within minutes. In addition, his listing was upgraded to premium (since I found the website entertaining and unique) without even contacting him. If he had not posted above the spelling mistake would not have been corrected and I would never have known who's site it actually was. We strive to the best web directory available. Period.

Post your link so the members here can review your site!

It really just appear they go the extra mile for sites they think deserve a listing. Go ahead and post a link

I just want a valid reason for not listing my site, not an automatic reply.

Ok let others judge and let me know what is the problem
in my link, I submitted to Web Marketing categories:

    http://www.marktse.com

I know you have absolute rights to not list the sites that you don't like, what I want is just a reasonable reason.

Although I did not review the site I will offer my assessement:

The site is purely an affiliate portal or designed primarily to harvest emails from site browsers. It offers virtually no content.

However, your blog has been added to the Web Marketing category and has a detail page here: Internet Marketing Blog.

I have added a text area for editors to enter their review notes. Each submission will be commented no matter if accepted or declined. So, in the future if the submission is declined the editor will leave a quick note as to the reason.

Well, just to let you know this directory was a waste of my time. All 5 of my sites were rejected.

You have no business and no marketing section so I picked the most relevant sections and you rejected two that fit those categories.

I have a site about Christian music and I submitted it to the music section...you rejected that one as well.

Absolute waste of time...just slightly worse than the dmoz. Is your goal to reject site or to build a directory? Because you don't have the influence that dmoz does, so don't act above where you are as of right now.

Well to make a decent directory, you have to be picky from the start. Its a weak excuse to accept sites you wouldnt otherwise accept just because you are new. (DMOZ did it though :) Anyway, sorry for you that your sites didnt make it. Is there a suggest category or something?
