Hey All, I was thinking of buying another Domain and changing my Sites link, but i have already done too much link building, with the old one, so can i forward my old 1 on the new 1 ? Will that cause anything to my Site's value ? or its fine ? it will be like 2 Domains on 1 Site. 1 will be forwarded though.
Certainly you could DO it. Just a DNS entry that maps the domain name to your other one. Less certain about disadvantages. Have done it plenty of times in the past, but not sure if our sites suffered or not. Most obvious would probably be duplicate content penalties... you know, search engines saying basically, "Hey! This site is just like the other site!" Oh, wait with DNS it will look like the incoming domain even though you are using the other domains content (and any hardcoded URL would be intact.) If you want to old links to actually end up AT the new site, then one of the redirect techniques would be the way to go. And, then you would either have to maintain a webpage for each link (if it has deep links), or use a 404 page redirect to your index.htm (or .php) which has the redirect to the new site. Well, this give you an idea of what is involved. question is... are you trying to migrate to the new site, or have 2 domains which are both valuable?
lol, i waHave 2 Domains which are both valuable, the new 1 doesnt have any backlinks but looks better then the old 1 which has backlinks.
