2 Domains - 1 Site

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by MKInfo, Feb 24, 2006.

I have purchased 2 domain names which I know will be huge in 2-5 years (maybe sooner).
One is .org and the other .info.

I was thinking about having both of them point to one site. What is the best way to do this without getting penalised?

Also which one would be best to use as the No.1 domain where the site is actually hosted the org or the info?

Any and all advice appreciated even if it means 2 seperate and different sites....how would you go about it.

I would like to start developing this (these) site(s) now to stand me in good stead when it takes off.

    Thanks
    MK

My feeling is go with the dot org for the principal domain. Place a 301 redirect from the dot info domain to the dot org.

Good luck. Hope the domains are as good as you think.

with this, does google think of the 2 domains as 2 different sites?

if so doesn't that mean you will be penalized for duplicate content?

Jump in here and correct me if I am wrong but my understanding that the 301 if set up right. will take care of that problem.

Google sees www . mydomain . com and mydomain dot com as two different sites. For this reason you redirect one to the other.

    Another excuse!
    LOL
That one is trademarked by me!

Odd, I register a new domain on namecheap, set up hosting within minutes of registering, and poof!
Site is there for all to see.
All within 10 to max 15 minutes.

Thats what I've done.I use namecheap too.Took 10 mins as you say.I felt guilty and whipped a quick copy of wordpress on there:eek: .

Just one more question though. If I've got the info redirecting to the .org
should I promote both domains in directories/links etc or just the org?

    Just to clarify:

I can promote both domains for one site
    I should use the redirect
I should promote my site using http://myname instead of http://www.myname

well i think you need a balance promotion for each as pr treats www and w/o www differently.

As per my suggestion you should
    1) Use org as your no. 1 site and info as no. 2
    2) Give one way link to your no.1 site i.e. from info site to org
    3) use info as 301 redirect (permanent) to org, but i think if you use 301 redirect, google might count it as black SEO technique ...
