$2,000,000 domain question

I've recently been informed by a good friend of mine (and, i might add, an extremely reliable and well-informed, connected source) that a website in my region changed hands for an undisclosed amount of money, definitely in excess of 2 million dollars.

This seems like alot of money to me - especially since the domain in question is very region-specific and definitely NOT optimized for search engines. It is, however, a PR 6 with a few hundred backlinks.

It's definitely a niche site - check it out for yourselves and let me know what you think. It's not my site - i'm just in shock. $2,000,000 seems WAY high.

    the site in question:

    branson (dot) com

    Thoughts?

Without even looking at it, Branson is a huge tourist destination, right? There is plenty of money to be made with it and that is a great name to start with. Worth 2 mill? That is up to the buyer, but yea, that does seem a bit excessive.. not out of the realm of possibility though. I'm sure LasVegas.com or Orlando.com could go for those kind of numbers.

Branson? Know Richard Branson from the Virgin empire? He probably bought it.

Though Whois still reckons the local travel board owns it:

    Branson Tourism Center Marketing LLC
    220 Branson Hills Parkway
    Branson, MO 65616
    US

Maybe Richard has given them time to shuffle it about.

IMO, it doesn't worth that much....
newyork.com will be around that price range.
Macau.com sold for 550,000, i would say branson.com is around the same range

If I was Richard Branson, I would have paid 2 million for it. But I'm not so I ended up paying 2k for fahd.org
