Optimization is different for the search engines, I'm having this problem as well, but traffic is STARTING to pick up from Yahoo... although I didn't do anything different. I think it has to do with domain age, but don't quote me on that! Also looking to hear other opinions
Try to get indexed in yahoo dir. but a site rank 2nd in yahoo with only 15 backlinks, it's some strange.
look u may know but its all about diffrences algorithem , yahoo dont like what google like. anyway i suggest u to check those things. google and yahoo really have difference with the inpage of your site.. also the links which important to google not that important for google.. try to place more links from other sites with good traffic in yahoo. third , and important is , Is yahoo really fit to your community destinatoin ? and THAT is the really difference between yahoo and others. Anyway , good luck!
I wouldnt do anything that would negatively affect your google rankings. Be happy it isnt the other way around! google is the one you want to be #1 on. That being said, get a ton of anchor text links for your keyword phrase and yahho will take notice.
My site is over 3 years old and yahoo still does not like me. I plan on paying for Yahoo directory but I have heard good and bad things about being included.
I have paid inclusion in yahoo dir and trust me, it did help me get good rankings in yahoo as well as google. It has a positive effect.. Come think like paying $25/month for a link when you submit to yahoo dir.. I think it is worth every pretty penny!!!
Good to know. I have never done it because I had read some post about how you don't get to choose your title and that some peoples serps were affected negativly in other search engines
Well true, you do not get to chooes title but at least you get your site name in there and also since it is put in relevant category with other sites of same theme, your site is then assumed to be of same type by the SEs. For my main keyword, I rank on 1st page in yahoo and google although the listing title in yahoo shows up from the directory title, which isn't bad cause you are getting the traffic anyways... Also, by submitting your site to yahoo, you get listed in all regions directory of yahoo. So you may get more than 3-4 backlinks easily..
I think that the off page optimization is the key. Once the page is optimized then it has to have high paying adsense keywords on it, and phrases that are highly related to the main key logo. This will then help you to increase your page rank. The tools for that are two really easy to use programs - good keywords and XSitePro. Just give them a try, guys!
speaking of the two whales - google and yahoo, we should say that after a period of time using the human-powered search results, Yahoo have actually broken the barrier and now it relies to the crawler-based results as well. The third-party search providers such as the human powered search results have been paid by Yahoo to handle the search queries. Recently, Google was paid by Yahoo to use the search queries it handled. All this means that to a certain extent, not to a great though, the search results of both engines overlap. And a good Google oriented of-page optimization might work for the Yahoo listings.
Shuttle, thanks for that clarification. To be honest, I didn't know Google and Yahoo collaborate in such a manner. Yet, I guess that the ranking algorithm might be still different for both, for obviously the search results don't overlap in all cases. Does anyone have more specific information on that?
Any person who has ever used the XSitePro soft. will agree with me, because if you use this piece of soft. to build a website and if you plan a good keyword strategy (which in most cases is done for you by this program) you will get, let's say top 10 page rank in google for a month time. Just then you will get similar ranking in Yahoo. You might be in the top 20, but this is not a far away ranking from the google one, right?
@Shuttle, Thanks a lot for your imput. It seems that regarding keyword optimization XSitePro does a great job. Undoubtedly so. However, I am certain that keyword criteria, though of critical importance, are not the only variable estimated by Google and Yahoo search engines. That is why I am exclusively interested in reading more comments on the matter.
well, this program names the images on your web site after keywords related to your website. It writes useful content that people would want to look at, updates the content frequently (Google likes new stuff) which prevents your web site from being sandboxed. Apart from this it does a great job with regards to the content optimization. First we have to understand that Search Engines are blind. They only see valid HTML codes. This program makes sure that the page has a valid XHTML, because search engines find it easier to read valid codes. It uses for example h1 for the most important title and h2 for the name of the second important and so on. The title of the page is important that is why it puts "name of page" followed by "name of site" and not the other way round. If you're doing it manually, please make sure that the name of the page precedes the name of the site. It puts the content of the page at the top which is more valued by SE.
google and yohoo are two different search engines which uses different algorithm which is then the result of the serp is different.
