As we all know, 1on40 is a company that will make your website #1 on Google for a week for all 5 keywords you specify. After that week is up, you can pay for "credits" to keep your site top for longer. They have just announced something though. They were offered a buyout of $100 million by Ask.com, and they turned it down! They seem to update their news every week or two, and they have said that since they started in August 2007, they've managed to complete 980 clients. Thats pretty good considering all the work they're probably having to do. So, what do you think they should do? Are they going to get everyone #1 on Google?
Interesting news... I'm a little bit surprised that they turned down the $100 million dollar deal. I think that they have the potential to get most sites #1 on google like they claim. The homepage of their website states: "We DO NOT ask for any money from you for our service until we’ve put YOUR web site at NUMBER ONE result on Google" ... very interesting.
I just checked out the site, being naturally suspicious or cynical of anything along the lines of "if it looks too good to be true...". Not sure if it's been discussed before, but I'm 99% sure it's just a scam site aimed at getting email addresses and related website domains. Along with your keywords they can build up a very nice database of information and send targeted spam to it. "If you have additional web sites you must resubmit the form using a different email address for each one." They don't give any specific examples either - the testimonials page is text all written by them. If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck... Peter
Try submitting www.google.com in the 'See how we can help you' box (with the Google logo, top left below the navigation) - unsurpisingly it says, Your site will never be at the top of Google.com without using 1on40.
