Okay fellow webmaster's, heres my scenario...I have 1k to invest into 2 site's im currently running. The first site is a brand new, community site similar to myspace/friendster/facebook..I have a feeling conversions should be high with this site. My second site is a texas holdem site, about 3 months old and has a current pagerank of 4 - This site currently brings in roughly 7 uniques/day...So I have 1k to invest total. What should I do with it? What are your opinoins on getting good traffic and help with the pageranks?

    Forget the sites....

Go play casino war and bet $10.00 a hand.

    Rules:

    1. If you win keep you bet the same.
    2. When you lose double your last bet. If you keep losing keep doubling all the way to $640 ($10, $20, $40, $80, $160, $320, $640). It is very, very, rare to lose more then 7 times in a row.
    3. Always surrender ties and add the amount lost on your next bet.
    4. Make sure there are at least 2 other people playing.

Example. You lose one hand that you bet $10.00 on. Make sure next bet $20.00. If you lose again $40.00. This way you will consistanly walk away with a positive cash flow. Set win limits.

    Mike :)

Only happens to me when I play at GoldenPalace.com. When I play at foxwoods or Mohegan Sun it hasn't happened yet. I have never lost more then 5 times. Its the ties the kill you. Plus it takes about 3 hours of solid play to profit about $150-$200 betting at the $5.00/$10.00 level per hand.

Take 6 decks of cards and shuffle them all together. Flip 1 for the dealer, 2 for mock players, and one for you. See how often you lose more then 4-5 times in a row. Use at least 6 decks.

Advice on how to spend money on this forum is not very good :(

It might not seem alot to some people, but a serious answer on how to invest his $1000 might have been nice. - even if it only produces the same results as manully subbmitting to directries, and isnt worth investing - telling the guy that would be good.

p.s - forget online casinos, horseracing is the way to go! Theres this system you can do where you always put enough on to cover your previous loseses. - you always stick to the same bookie, and this excel spreadsheet tells you what to bet. If that horse losess, you put in the odds of the next horse in the next race, it tells you what to bet, and gives you enough to get money back, and make a profit. I'll sort it out if anyones intreasted ;)

    Cheers

I'll try to give you some more serious advice. I can't guarantee you'll get anything out of it though.

    - Directory Listings.
There are a LOT of free directories out there, submit to them. If you don't like doing that yourself, you can pay people about $15 for 100 submissions to do the work for you.

    - WordTracker.
A subscription will cost you depending on the length but it's well worth it. You can get a lot of info on the keywords you are using and the ones you SHOULD be using... helps get the free SEO traffic flowing... but you need to work.

    - Optimise for SPEED
People *HATE* slow sites. Optimise for speed... do it yourself or pay someone who knows, it shouldn't be too expensive. While you're at it convert everything to XHTML/CSS if possible.

    - Link Exchange
Often times free, sometimes you can buy memberships to link exchange services for a small fee, maybe $20/year

    - Buy Links on Related Sites
Do this for traffic, not PR. You need traffic. If you needed PR, I would advise you to buy from my site (in the sig) ;)

    - Write articles and product reviews for MAGAZINES and OTHER WEBSITES to feature, NOT THE ARTICLE DATABASE WEBSITES!
You want to funnel people from related sites onto yours, also industry specific magazines, very relevant and quality traffic.

    - Contests
Can be useful. Make the prizes small and more symbolic than anything else. Don't waste all your money on give-aways.

    - PPC
    The sky's the limit

    - Sell t-shirts & GIVE them away to "top posters" and so on

    - Buy signature space from forum members
Go to relevant forums, participate and then offer ca$h to members who put your links and ads in their sigs. This could be your best bet.

You can do most of these (except PPC) for WAY UNDER $1k

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Pete

    I'd suggest implementing gzip. http://www.whatsmyip.org/mod_gzip_test/
go there and type in an address to see if its running gzip and how much it reduces the page size by :)

Thanks itsme! thats very helpful info :)

    ------------------------------------------

wow. Gzip would make a MASSIVE improvement to my site...

    Page Size: 31 K
    Size if Gzipped: 5 K
    Potential Savings: 83.87%

-- but i've heard that gzip kills cpu usage - im using dreamhost which limit cpu usage, so i dont know wether to do it or not

What does you business plan tell you to do? When you are talking about that kind of money as an investment you should have a clearly defined buisness plan with short term and long term goals.

Hopefully you've have already or will map out a plan as to how your buisness will generate revenue, where your traffic will come from, where you will advertise, where you will get traffic from, etc., etc., etc...
