1and1 Raising Prices, Changing Hosts

    Hello,

I'm not sure how many people here use 1and1 for hosting purposes but I just received an e-mail saying they were going to change the cost.
I believe this is changing from $4 a month to now $7 a month. Still cheap, but why should I settle for subpar hosting at a higher price when there are many better hosts out there that are competitively priced. I've been looking for a reason to cancel for 2 years now and it's finally happening.

What hosts do you guys recommend?

If anyone can PM me that knows how to transfer wordpress sites from one host to another please get in contact with me.

Transfer data /move sites is easy if you use cpanel, Or you can do it manual yourself.

    - Transfer files via ftp.
    - Backup and restore database.
    - Edit conf. file ( optional )

Ask your new web host to help you transfer your blogs over to your new hosting account. Also some web hosts will even buy out your old hosting contract with your previous host for switching over to them.

I'd switch to either hostgator or mediatemple - Both have served me well.

    Seconded for host gator.
    Great quick customer service.
You should sign up under a friend so that at least someone you know gets the $100 referral

$7 a month isn't too bad but I would recommend Hostgator over 1and1 too.

yeah, hostgator rock, they always have a very competitive price over others . If you buy domain, I will suggest you 1&1 but if you buy host, go with hostgator, godady is horrible.

1 and 1 is a bad hosting company. Few years ago, when i had a forum, it seemed like it was down more then up. I didn't even have that many mods added but when i went to host gator i only had 1 downtime in the past 3 years. Please note i do not own that forum no more but have other sites with gator.

Shop around and do research on other hosts before buying. I'm sure lot's of people will recommend there own hosting business in this thread and other hosts but get the host that fit's your budget. Also make sure the your sites requirements to run will work with the host you will go with. No use moving and find out the site will not run.
