never use 1and1, it is too hard to transfer domain.
I tried one, i need to call to request a form, fill it up and fax it to them. Took me 2 weeks....and the buyer back off....
i am kind of stuck cause i have over 100 name with 1and1

It boils down to your main purpose of registering domains, 1and1 is fine if you do not plan to sell your domains.

I would include their hosting in that as well, especially that crappy template builder thing that never worked in 6 months.

I don't have any hosting experience with them, can't comment on that. I bought a domain reg'd at 1and1 sometime ago, it took them more than a week just to unlock the domain for transfer, not to mention the numerous fax-requests being sent by the seller. It's a real hassle for both seller and buyer.

Yep. That's just the beginning. Do yourself a good turn and transfer your domains out to another registrar before you get caught in the 1&1 'death grip' where your account gets locked and you are unable to administer anything in your account.

"never use 1and1, it is too hard to transfer domain."
Not the first time I've heard this. Think its time to move my 10 or so domains away.

Where would you go though, I use 1 and 1 had few problems, except I can only pay by credit card and I do not have one soI have to get someone else to pay for me - Actually the more I think about it they are twats - Waiting on the phone for 20 mins for an answer, then getting through to the Phillipeans where they cannont understand my english sourthern accent.

    Comon then where would you go for UK provider - I need 10 data bases - 20 domains - a few e-mail addresses - a few sub domains - PHP4 - SQL 4 (i think) for £18 a month or less

    Ideas

Yeah, and if for some reason you decide to let a domain expire but don't send the required form (try finding it!) either by fax or by snail mail, your entire account gets frozen! You can do nothing until you cough up for the 'arrears'.

Every other registrar on the internet lets you administer your account using the internet, allowing you to cancel, append or renew domains. Not 1&1. You can email them until your internet connection explodes, telephone them; none of it matters. They must have the written form.

Woe is you if you forget because your entire f***ing account gets locked! Regardless of how many domains (remember, your property, not theirs!) you need to admin or hosting; everything gets locked down and you can't access it until the 'arrears' get paid. So you are completely stuffed!

I wouldn't recommend anyone use them and anyone that is using them in my opinion, should start transferring your domains away before you get caught in the 'death grip'.

Transfer your domains to namecheap.com (they don't require a credit card as you can pay them with Paypal) and find some alternative hosting. I'd begin with the domain transfers. Get them underway and leave the hosting where it is for just now until you have all the domains safely moved. You'll be looking at around $180 to move 20 domains.

At least if you have your domains separate from your hosting you retain control.

As everyone has already posted 1and1 seems to be very much hit and miss, and more into miss.

Thought they would be perfect for a site registration which I planned to hold for a long time (I didn't have any intentions of selling the domain), but they just took my money and didn't give any response.

Two votes of confidence for Godaddy and Namescheap .
