1and1 is shady!

They locked one of my domain packages on me, they tried billing me for domains that I did not want and I emailed their support back on every invoice telling them to stop ALL billing to my account since I changed my CC details they're not getting their money.

So now they want me to update my CC info, then the domain package will be unlocked and able to be transferred. Trying to move all my domains to Namecheap, but I can't get EPP codes to transfer them. But the second I update my CC details I'm going to get charged the renewal fee of $6.95 for 13 some domains that I'd get the year out of and a better registar out of anyway.

Can you beleive this? Well, I guess I can. Only reason I went there was $5.95 domains and free .info's, but I guess the extra $2 at Namecheap is WELL worth the support and honest business.

Don't expect 1and1 to ever be there for the customer unless they're trying to get some money from you!

I called support, and spend 23 minutes talking to a person who had an accent that was impossible to understand and had no clue what I meant when I asked him for the EPP code for all my domains. This is really a crappy company with really shady practices, I advise to stay away.

Do NOT update your CC info! This happened to me a while back, what they've done is forwarded your account to a collections agency, and if you registered with your real info, they're going to fuck around with your credit. The collection agency are a bunch of drunks. When I tried giving them a call, the guy was trying to give me some 20 step guide that involved my bank, the government, 5 or so other phone numbers I had to call, etc; and he was stumbling over his words so that I couldn't understand him completely.

I have heard loads of bad stuff about their American operation...
I hosted with them in the UK for over 5 years. I've never really had any probs...
They do seem to give American customers a lot more for a lot less.. That must reflect in the service..

I had a hosting package someone I was making a website for free gave me permission to use.

he changed his CC info (without telling me, and refusing to pay further) and now the account is locked at 6 months. My 800 UV /day forum has been down for almost a week because I can't get someone's credit card info and I don't have one!

I asked if they could unlock it a few days so I could transfer eveything and I have to pay for another freaking six months!

the sites go to a collection agency on the 16th

I'm in the US. I have 8 domains there. Never had any issues with them. I even tried transferring one a few days ago. They were helpful on the phone. And they allowed it. And it took not to long to do the transfer process. I just unlocked the name and got the auth code. And not its gone.

    Thanks,

I guess everyone has bad experience with a hosting company at one point in time. I have a shared account and dedicated server with 1nd1 and even though I have had some minor issues, It has been as good as the rest.

Also, search for 1and1.com hater, 1and1 sucks, 1&1 sucks here and on google. You'll find several good resources. The main thing to do after you find yourself walking right again is tell everyone you know multiple times about how awful 1and1.com is to use for domains.

I used 1and1 for years but I too fell out big time with them last year. I got all my cards nicked just before renewal so I asked my dad if he'd pay my bill for me and I'd sort him. He did but then they started making all these unauthorised payments...which got really bad for me as I'd asked them to remove his card by phone and email (they replied to it). It went on for months. Moved my domains and then claimed I owed money..sent to a debt agency in hull I think that are using dodgy methods of pressure. Told 1and1 I do not owe any money and to take to court as I have the emails cancelling stuff and asking card to be removed. This debt agency have added on £120 to £30 1and1 say I owe. It's a shame I charge £150 for my time.

I should add a mate that had a large account with 1and1..he runs a successful website that uses 300-350gb bandwithe a month also fell out with them as they didn't seem to give a damn about him even though he was paying them nearly £1k ($2k) a month in hosting fees.

I can't comment on their hosting, but I can on their domain services and they are terrible.

I'm sorry to hear that richt7, seems they just want your money and that's all. I'm done with them, I hope they do send me to a collection agency. I've got the means with a family member who is a business lawyer, they will be getting their asses handed to them. What happened to you just isn't right, and that's EXACTLY why I am not putting in a new CC. I too noticed a few unauthorized charges around the time of registering domains, they charged me for the free .info promotion (and honestly it's the only reason I used them for 8 other domains) which I got corrected thanks to PayPal :)

My info also got sent to the collection agency and I got a letter in the mail saying I owed how many ever dollars for the current hosting but my account had been locked so I wasn't even hosting with them. The letter also threatens that they are going to report it "to all national credit bureaus". Highly don't recommend anyone using 1and1 because sooner or later their going to screw you over.

At first I was hearing all these stories how bad they were but nothing had happened to me so I was glad because I had hosting and my site was running, but then everything went bad. Get out while you still can and make sure to change the cc number (not sure if you can) before leaving.

They sent my info to a collection agency saying I hadn't cancelled right and I owed £12 plus admin charges of £45. I told them to take me to court as they charged a card I removed and they confirmed it was removed illegally. Wonder what a court would say about that?

I continually sent complaint emails everyday to a list of like seven people; all the emails I could find from another site which used to expose 1and1.suck but now hawks hosting services instead :(
