Hello guys, I have searched for good place to register domain. I saw that 1and1 have promotion of just 0.99$ domain .com What do you think about 1and1 as company and your review about this promotion if you have post here it will help me.
Enticing price, but it is only good for 10 domains. After the 10th domain, regular price is $9.99 each. Not good for people w/ small bulk of domains. I have no experience with them but have read several negative reviews at Web Hosting Talk. Some people say you have to fax them extra "supplemental documents," whatever that means(?) So I tweeted 1&1 a few days ago to ask. Before they could answer, another person tweeted me with a warning re 1&1 w/ link to their blog/experience with 1&1 (from 2007-2008). 1&1 did reply to my tweets today 10/3/11, & here's what they said re "supplemental documents": Someone said they give you 3 days to get the "documents" together. Sounds like a big hassle. I've never had to submit "supplemental documents" @ Netfirms, Namecheap, nor @ Name.com. A credit card is normally all it takes to register domains. Another tweet by 1&1 (not addressed to me) said 14 days is their normal/average time for the orders to go through. Go to their twitter feed & read their responses to other people, or try hashtag #1and1. Since their normal & renewal price is $9.99, it's not worth risking ending up with hassles at 1&1, for me anyway.
1and1 always has good prices, they used to host a website for me a very long time ago, however their customer service sucked, when the site was down, they were no where to be found and they always took forever to resolve my issues which cause downtime and we all now that a website thats down is useless, maybe their customer service has changed it was in like 2003 or so dont recall.
I don't recommend 1and1 at all... getting your domains is easy, transferring them out is a different story. Upselling is their middlename.
1and1 frustrated me more than I care to describe. The backoffice is super limited compared to cpanel on hostgator, and their support seems like newbies learning as the questions come in.
Yup, the sale is just till 10 domains .. but sounds really good sale if u dont need that many domains
I still have one domain with them but I have plans of transferring it to GoDaddy just like what I did before. This is my second time for cheap domain from them. They are ok but I am just being extra careful that is why I dont renew with them. Transfer of registrar instead.
Before, I have experienced their webs hosting service and it worked fine but their service is getting frustrating. Perhaps, I could recommend them for domain registration or domain hosting which is great but Web hosting is a different story
You and everyone else who wants to deal with this registrar should understand that this company's parent company was founded in Germany and Germany, like most European countries, are still rooted in the old model of working and doing business, models that have "papers" and "documentation" as a major element. They are not as bad as the Eastern Europeans or the Russians (gees!), but ideas about "documentation" are very widespread and most systems and thus people, are very fixated on expecting to produce and for others to demand to see "documentation", often for small, minor or even non-essential reasons. Its just built into many government and business procedures. They have yet to find a way to modernize, update, hence why they lag behind. The USA isn't that far behind the Europeans in this regard, with around 15 different bits of paper needed to buy a car (cash), something that I've had do. But doing business is often easier in the USA & less cluttered than elsewhere, especially online. Just look how easy it is to buy a .com domain name. Try buying a .DE or .FR or an .ES domain name, even if you are a citizen of those countries. Its a labyrinth of work, leading to head shaking, eyebrows raising, as well as bouts of screaming & exasperation. You would pull your hair out!
