I am in the process of canceling some domains I had registered on 1and1. They seemed to be pretty good in the beginning registration was cheap and it comes with free private whois :) I am trying to cancel some names I dont want anymore. I did the whole cancel url thing now I need to fax the paper...but it seems their line is always busy or they just disconnected it? I can't fax it...I am on the phone on hold...and its taking a while....Anyone dealt with this before can give me some advice?

Hmm so far someone picked up that must of been about 10min on hold. Well the person I spoke too seem to be pretty helpful he said we dont do fax in no more. He also asked me if i wanted to cancel right aways...I said yes and he did...I also asked if I can get an email to confirm this and I got one. :)

I also asked him about the 1and1 nightmare from other customers :D He said no which is quite obvious but he seemed very helpful...I dont know if this goes smooth I might reconsider using their service in the future.

I'd call them and ask for the direct fax number for the person I was talking to. It may work, it may not...but it would be worth a try.

Failing that, i'd walk to their office because it's at the end of my road.

    Ah :)
I dont live in the Uk or close to their state location, but I called again to check why the domain isn't removed yet he seemed very helpful. He told me it takes up to 24 hours and the package will have a red marking (star or something I forgot) So far I am pretty sure its going smooth....when I google 1and1 cancel(lation) lots of negative comments and customer experiences pop up which scared me away from using 1and1, but who knows maybe they change I hope so! :D

I canceled many domains using the cancel url but once I acknowledged the email they sent me it was cleaned up from my account so no faxing etc needed. Why you have to do to this faxing route , are these domain still showing up in your account.

Well the domain is still there, I originally scheduled to have it terminated at the end of this month, but when I called the person I spoke with asked if I wanted it cancel today instead and I said ok :) I was just worried at first after reading all those negative comments.

I dont even think I received the fax papers in any of the emails. I ran into them in accident during the cancellation process I saw two files looking links like attachments (i can't really remember) But I clicked on them these forms showed up one per domain, and it said print and file out and fax it so I did as it said but their line is disconnected and I was like on no !!!

I will give it some times before logging back on and checking it out. Thanks for your reply it makes me feel much better :D

I have used 1and 1 for many years and the problem is you have to go to http://contract.1and1.co.uk or com to cancel domain in your package. On the odd occasion they haven't done this automatically I have spoke to support (which is free 0800) and tech support has taken care of this. They are pretty good once you get your head round their process
