Have you read or heard of the book 1984? In my mind it's one of the most important "modern" books - right up there with Farenheit 454 and Animal Farm that spells out what can happen when you just sit idly by and ignore your social responsibility to monitor your own government. I was talking with several people this weekend who had never even heard of the book and I just found that strange.
Its a great book and yes I've read it (many times). I've always enjoyed Farenheit 451 more but they are both amazing books.
I haven't read it yet but do know what's it about. There's many other sources besides these ones that will instantly encourage anyone with even the smallest brain processing power to stop being sheep herded by a bunch of corrupt assholes.
Along similiar lines to 1984, I would also suggest reading "A brave new world" by Huxley. Both are excellent...
Nope, I've never read it. But i've heard of it. I simply loved Animal Farm. I had to study it and write a huge essay on it when I was at school. I think I may have been the only one that found it interesting and sneakily kept the book when everyone else handed theirs in. hee haa hoo huu I will check out this 1984, cheers big ears.
giddy up ha ha ................... ok but back 2 topic the real animal farm..... (excludin the farm girls) made me cry........... it was a lovely piece of work
Funny you should mention this book. I was thinking about it this weekend. We were required to read this, Animal Farm, and Brave new world in school.
The concepts in 1984 have permeated the intellectual and cultural landscape. Doublethink, newspeak and thoughtcrime can all be found in mainstream media and art (movies, books and Apple's famous one-time superbowl commercial). Folks who have not read the original work have likely been exposed to many of it's concepts indirectly and unknowingly. BTW, it's Fahrenheit 451.
1984 gave me nightmares while I was reading it. If you liked Fahrenheit 451, check out the movie, Equilibrium .
I know a little about 1984, also the 1984-based Apple Mac ad. I found a site (http://members.aol.com/thegneech/msb.htm) which shows (bottom of page) a still from the ad with a photo of Sir Gates next to it. Funny how he looks like the Big Brother guy on the screen!
