19" monitor in web development

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by N_F_S, Apr 4, 2007.

I'm looking to buy a 19" LCD monitor, but I don't know if it's good or not for a webmaster? I know it says everywhere that the resolution is 1280x1024 among all of them, but will I be able to switch it to 1024x768 whenever I want or not?

Most of internet users are on 1024x768 resolution, that's why I'm asking this.

Any posts from 19" monitor ppl will be helpful.

    thanks

Usual (not LSD) monitors have better colors.

For web developers it is better to have a big monitor either 19" or 21". Resolution should not be a problem cause you would set the default size of your web template or web page, in the application which you use to design the web page.. and of course 19" LCD monitors have become Affordable these days

without a doubt I think 19" monitors are the best.

    Well, let me clarify that.

I use dual screen 19" for my web development.

It is amazing how productive you can be with two screens.

The problem with one big monitor is it's hard for me to
    organize my work.

Sure you can move it to the side, but sometimes you want to move something where it won't distract you. Yet, you still have easy access to it.

    Dual-monitors are great for that.

Plus, it's easier to position two smaller screens than one big one.

get a 20.1" or 21" widescreen...you will enjoy it much better...plus, since widescreens are what most people are going to these days, you website could look better.

Thanks all for replies, but anything more than 19" I think will be too much for my desk:)

widescreen?? hmm, I'd never thought of getting a widescreen. So, noone answered the question, is it only one resolution on 19" monitor - 1280x1024 or does it have others? Like, now for example I've got 15" LCD and it has 2 options - 800x600 & 1024x768. I will consider widescreen though.

the resolution depends on your graphics card more than it does on your monitor...my monitor will handle about 25 different resolutions, which my card only about 15....also, remember that a 19" widescreen will not be as tall as a 19" 4:3...a 21" wide is about the same height as a 19" 4:3.

I don't think so.....when I had 17" CRT LG monitor, I could choose from 800x600 up to 1600x1200, and with the same card & 15" LCD there's only 800x600, 1024x768. So, when moving to LCD, it's definitely LCD are less flexible in term of resolution.

Can anyone tell me if there's a setting on 19" LCD to switch from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 for a testing purposes??

you went down in size....I have an LCD, and I love all the options that it has...and yes, depending on the LCD that you get (all of them are different) then you should be able to do those settings...the bigger the monitor, the more setting you should have out of it and out of your graphics card...

A 19" should be fine. I can do things pretty well with my 15.4" widescreen LCD on my laptop. It supports 1280x800 as a maximum and that's what I use.
