I have made a post listing more that 180 article sites you can use to submit your articles to. Including a link in the author bio will help to increase your backlinks.

Not really. Write an original article with useful content and submit to Ezine article. Have a good bio box. Write the article in such way that you give high quality teaser information. To learn more they need to click on the link in your bio.
Depending upon the niche, you will see traffic coming from Ezine articles and it will benefit your seo efforts as well.

But I must agree that many of the smaller article directories send almost no traffic.
