Don't worry, kids won't be playing video games for much longer.

When the parents both have to work, the next worker in the family is the oldest child. 60 years after we had a post-war middle class, the erosion of our tangible national prosperity has led to people who work more, longer and in greater numbers within a household.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to remind me that it is "progress".

"Since September 1997, the purchasing power of the minimum wage has deteriorated by 20%. After adjusting for inflation, the value of the minimum wage is at its lowest since 1955, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a policy organization focused on low- and moderate-income families and individuals."

Is this what we consider a thriving economy?

Totally sick. I still can't digest this abomination. I mean, what the hell were they even thinking? Striking and body-slamming little girls is straight out of South Park! I haven't read the news item but I'm sure it must've been some kind of Mature-rated video game that motivated these kids to do this.

Don't get me wrong though, I love Grand Theft Auto, but I'd never ever expose it to a child or even to an immature adult. Games like GTA are meant for adults but sadly, its teenagers that end up accounting for most of the fanbase of these games.

In this case, people shouldn't be blaming the video games. I wouldn't even blame the parents. They are at fault yes, but at 17 at 16 respectively I'm sure the kids have to be held totally responsible for this atrocity.

R.I.P to the child that was killed.

    Video Games?

I've been playing video games since I was a kid, I started with games like Contra (Old NES). I have played few of the most violent VGs like Doom, GTA, and so, but never had any problem distinguishing between VG and real life.

And it makes me wonder whether its VG that makes children violent or something else.

    My pick, it's something else...

Edit: Yepp it was something else. From the Report.

I have to agree. These kind of tragic events are common with no connection to violent video games.

Few years ago, it was violent movies behind all those backyard and high school brawls. Now it's Video Games. in future it will be something else.

I remember a funny incident, Few days ago I was playing UT2004 when my uncle visited me. for some minutes he watched the games and expressed his concern how these Video games are becoming more realistic in game play and graphics. He said in the next few years they will start putting real people's images in the VGs and then kids will find killing people in VG no different than killing people in real...

Its Sick,I remember when my father thought Streets of Rage on the megadrive was "Violent",nowadays things have got more realistic.
Playing GTA San Andreas,it puts you in the hands of a criminal who can kill the police, innocent bystanders and rob convenience stores.

For once we agree... These gaming systems can be great educational tools. My kid has one of those that plays things like Thomas the Train, and other learning games.. There are many decent games fro WII and other gaming systems as well.. However, there are way too many violent ones...

Ultimately the parents are to blame as well. I will never let a teenager watch my kid. The only people that have ever watched my kid, either have kids, or are directly related to me.

I can kinda see where kids would rough house like this, but to kill the kid in the process? They must have been really rough housing!

WTF was this guy doing there anyway? That is another problem with teenagers baby sitting.. They tend to invite the bf over...

I never see my son but at the same time i wouldn't be happy for him to be looked after by a 16 year old or for him to play any GTA or Violent game.

I'm sorry, but people are always way to quick to blame something else. I've been watching violent movies (my dad let me watch Robo Cop, Aliens, etc. when I was 5, very violent in my opinion) and playing video games since I can remember and I'm no more violent because of it. I've never once sat around and thought "well I can kill hookers in GTA, I must be able to do it in real life". I blame the parents, period. Have they ever taken the time to explain to their children that movies and games are not real life? That you can't go around and act out things you see on the screen? My parents certainly sat me down and explained it to me. I've always thought of video games as an escape from reality. It's the parents fault for not spending enough time with their kids to teach them about life and to discipline their kids.

And I know some people argue that parents have to work 3 jobs just to support their family so they can't be around to watch them all the time. I say BS to that. My parents were divorced and I was a latch key kid, which means I had to get myself to and from school, stay home by myself for hours a day, feed myself, and do my homework. They weren't there half the time, but they still managed to teach me right from wrong.....

They are 16 and 17? And it's the video games fault alone? I doubt that highly. I've been playing games since I can remember and I've never killed anyone using video games moves...that's just insane. I played games look Doom and I never went on a shooting spree...it's so stupid to just blame it on games.

The part that pisses me off is these two dumbasses being in the news are going to get everyone up in arms over violent games (because obviously they turn people into killers) and I'm afraid they'll start censoring games. They'll ruin it for everyone.

Those two obviously have some serious underlying issues to not understand they were beating someone to death, being 16 and 17. Maybe, maybe if they were younger but come on, you would have to be really stupid to not see you were seriously injurying the child.

I believe VG has nothing to do with it...
Playing Mortal Kombat is one thing and performing the moves of that game is completely another. Performing moves of that game that can actually kill someone else (not you) is not possible unless you are trained martial artist.

On the top of that, the guy was drunk.. So blame a drunk martial artist's and his girlfriend's sick mind for killing that girl.
