Now I know this is to be expected because that 160GB isn't a real measurement it is a rounded or guessed one but even so my 160GB has a real space of 148GB, that is 12GB, that's A LOT of stuff I could fill up in that space, I mean come on! Is there an explanation for this or is it just mine or what? Anyway to extend the space of it past that 148GB?
A computer sees a gigabyte as it really is... 1024*1024*1024 = 1,073,741,824 bytes Hard drive manufacturers round to 1,000,000,000... so a 160GB hard drive really only has 149GB (as defined by a computer). 160GB hard drive has 160,000,000,000 bytes of storage (as defined by hard drive manufacturer). 160,000,000,000 / 1024 /1024 /1024 = 149. The 1GB you still are missing is because a small part needs to be allocated and can't be used for file storage (for example you need somewhere on the hard drive that keeps tracks of what files are where on the hard drive).
I think that it's enough for all files in the very beginning. But soon 160 gb will be not enough for your demands.
