I was looking at 15kchallenge.com and I found alexa ranking http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?q=&url=www.15kchallenge.com This site is just 4 months old, how come?
how old is it supposed to be? also, it's quite possible it existed before that but just wasn't getting enough traffic for alexa to notice.
hemm check this: http://whois.domaintools.com/15kchallenge.com the domain was registered in last august
I had no idea it got such a low Alexa rank. But it's still getting buzz these days even though it's over, so it makes sense.
an average of ~12,000 in alexa is not that bad, especially considering the group you're targetting is fairly small. I mean, you could get in the top 5,000 with a paris hilton fansite but it won't pay nearly as well as getting less traffic in a niche like the 15k challenge is in.
Sig links. Well, the site is just starting so I expect the ranking to go up as well specially when I start releasing more stuff
It honestly means nothing. In general webmaster traffic makes Alexa rank go silly. It's not on the same scale but go look at the chart for www.30kchallenge.com . I can personally guarantee you that that site should rank nowhere near what alexa says. I have sites with 20 times the traffic and nowhere near the rank. Cheers.
oh, I agree with that completely. I actually had Brett Tabke get all defensive over it when I mentioned that webmasterworld shouldn't be ranked as high as it is, because of the disproportionate number of webmasters that have the toolbar vs the regular population
15kchallenge + BS + Cult following that does referral marketing for you + hotdog vending machines = Alexa ranking that will maintain that height for quite sometime.
Alexa doesn't really mean anything. I registered a site on the 24th October, its currently ranked at 5,459 (1 week average)
I created the site for the sole purpose of including it in my viral marketing portfolio. you can see the Alexa ranking here The 3 month average as: 48,442, which is invalid since the site is not even 1 month old. Cheers
wow! To have a 12 grand average, they must have been pulling some pretty huge numbers early on My site is now hitting the 30,000 numbers daily (most days), but Alexa can be tricked. Not that I have done it - but there are ways to get a really good figure, without actual visitors. All dodgy of course. I think Alexa can be used as a bit of fun - but nothing to get stressed about
it's pretty easy to boost yourself into the top 200,000 or maybe even 100,000, but once you get as high as 12K~, it becomes really hard to spoof that much traffic
