Hey all. I am new to online marketing... well, that is semi-untrue. I build a pretty viral MySpace website with a friend about two years ago and we had adwords and did alright. I'm now kind of hitting the blogging scene and want to start to bring in a few bucks here or there. The goal is a steady $50 a month and then to scale from there. Baby steps right? I want to offer those 150 X 150 image ads that are all to familiar... problem is I don't know if my traffic is up to snuff. I was thinking of getting the ball rolling by offering the first six bidders 2 months of advertising for like $5. Do you think this is reasonable? I'd sell a big banner for pretty cheap too. My blog http://www.biz-tone.blogspot.com has an extreme tracker icon at the very bottom (looks like a planet with an orbit around it). What do you all think?
It seems reasonable It would be good if you get a custom domain (.com,.org) That would send your advertising rates up a little
I agree a set domain does add a lot of credibility to any site. Also feel set up a page about your marketing philosophy - why only X banners. Share your thoughts on testing the paid advertising workd on your blog etc as a topic. Check out http://www.doshdosh.com/advertise/ for an idea on how to approach this.
This is what I would do: Select a few products/services that have affiliate programs with creative (ads already designed)... run them on your blog for a month or two then you'll know what they are worth. Charge advertisers direct an extra 10% or so for the extra work it takes you to sort the deal out.
Yeah I agree with first two replies.. You should get a domain lol of your own. Also for someone with social network experience and adwords like you said you had I would of expected too see a .com at the end of that post and not a free hosted domain. Took me a bit by shock lol. -Scott
Apart from getting your own domain, I would no recommend you to venture into banner ad monetization just yet. Focus on building your traffic first. No one will buy ads on site with lower than 50 uniques on average.
