Abyss, this is a relevant question indeed. In the last contest - my first contest - the participant who created a logo that was on the right track, never got back to me. I would have selected him as a winner had he made a few minor changes. My biggest mistake in that contest was to promise everyone feedback. As mentioned, that was my first contest and I really did it as a practice run for this project. I hope I can make amends here. I will not select a winner if the design is not good, but believe me, if something is presented that we like, we will go for it. We are in a hurry to get this (and loads of other shops and templates) up and running.
Wow! I really like it. My only concern is that the categories menu needs to be in a vertical side column because an online store generally needs to have the flexibility of having three categories as well as 20. Having more than x categories will break the layout. But putting a side column into your layout will kind of ruin the whole thing... Now it is nice and clean. Don't change anything at the moment. Let me confer with the client and get back to you. Some minor things and this is not a criticism just some ideas on how you can go from good to perfect: - you are mixing rounded corners and square corners which is not terrific. I think it would look better with just one or the other, preferably rounded corners in this case - your alignments are a little bit off. you would need to left align the logo with the top menu, and the left most product image. On the right hand side the pink top banner should align with the the top menu and the right hand side product image. Not so easy to explain in writing. Hope you understand. Thank you for your contribution. I will keep you posted.
emzdesign While I was writing feedback for your entry I got the message that you had withdrawn your entry. Therefor I will not post my feedback. But thank you for participating!
emzdesign Just FYI, since you posted your entry before Abyss. I was traveling all day yesterday and offline. I started writing the feedback the minute I managed to get online. Again, thank you.
abyss I have done some thinking. I really like your entry but unfortunately the design has to have a side column (left or right is up to the designer). I want website visitors to be able to see the "mini cart" at all times (as explained in the breif) and as far as I can see I think this requires a left column. Ecommerce sites certainly has some trade-offs between pretty and functional. I personally prefer layouts without a left or right column but it doesn't seem practical. Feel free to prove me wrong! Show me some links to good and functional ecommerce stores without a side column or your own designs.
Found your porfolio - look forward to your entry! I am shortly posting some more instructions and clarifications based on the entries so far.
Thanks for your quick revision. Here is some feedback, since you asked for it. I don't want to waste peoples time so you don't have to make any more changes at this point, I get the idea. If I pick this entry as a winner I will tell you what changes I need. Now feedback: I like your first one better, this one looks a little too "busy" which is partly to do with the side column (which I asked for). I am not sure the side column should be on a colored background and I am not sure that I want products boxed in. I think I prefer products on a white background without any frames because the frames are drawing attention from the products. General advice to any contestants: The design is supposed to sell the product so the design has to make the product stand out. It is not the design that is supposed to stand out. Back to you Abyss: You now have a cart in three places and categories in two places. I like the free shipping label but the rest of the top graphic is taking up a lot of valuable browser real estate. I think I would prefer the free shipping label separate in the header plus a graphic displaying a promotion of some sort. You got rid of most square corners but you still have some left. The light pink background that is framing the site (top menu, side menu and footer) is still square. This gives an inconsistent feeling to your design. Again, thanks for your time and effort. We'll see how this goes.
Ok, I will see what I can do. It might not be completely revised tonight I'm afraid Any ideas on what promotions can go in that top box?
