150 small search engines and no traffic!!!

I added my website to 150 small search engines more than year ago and now i realize that it was waste of my time. Only this month i got only 5 visitors ( to compare with Google - 360 in september).
It is 100% better to add the same way in directories because it is backlinks.
All this 150 small search engines just keep your website in their database and it can't be indexed by search engines linke Google, Yahoo, MSN.

its better for search engines to find and index your site itself rather then submitting your site to the search engines. Your site will be given more weight....

    Weired , no links from 150 SE's ?

And of course it will more valuable when SE's itself comes to your website .
Most ranking algorithm involves the location and frequency of keywords on a web page. You need to check with your site and try to apply more SEO on it .

lol... I did the same thing too when I first got mine going. Once you get the back links going though, they seem to find you just fine, anyway.

On a good note, many of the small SE's only ask for a URL so that they can send their bot, at least you didn't have to fill out a longer form for entry.

Don't submit - there's no need to. The ones that are important and that are popular will find your website automatically. Such large search engines will have bots that come and find new websites daily to index as the demand for their search results would be getting greater and greater as popularity grows.

The larger search engines do visit DP a bit. Have your site in your signature and you'll get the big ones visiting your site in no time.

This is a pretty basic principle. If you want traffic from search engines you need to do some keyword optimization and affiliate links.

No many people use minor search engines.
For a newbie, they will probably use search engines like MSN, as it is set as default in Internet Explorer.
For some advanced user, they will also use major search engines, like Google, to drive more relevant results.
There is more reason to use a major search engine than a small one, unless it suits one's style.
In conclusion, optimizing your website on one major search engine is better than optimizing them on 150 small search engines.
    Just my 2 cents. :)

Yes, they suckered 4 years ago (got more spam than I want to admit). Sooner or later everybody finds this to be true. These are mostly a waste of time. However, I have found very targeted niche search engines, do send traffic to my sites.

Many directories also do not send traffic, but others will. So it is a guessing game for the most part.

Submitting to small search engines can't bring too much traffic, so better use automatic software to do that instead of manual submission.

The bulk of my traffic has always come from google. I get very little from Yahoo & MSN and nearly 0 from smaller search engines. I would not bother with the smaller engines.

Never submit yourself if they are good and large search engines which will bring traffic then they will index your site.
Every search engine is not google which brings alot of traffic
    Thanks,

The only three big search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN. I get most of the traffic on my site from MSN as my site is not ranking on Google yet. No other search engines get me any traffic.

I agree. Submitting to smaller search engines is a waste of time of energy. You can not expect to receive any traffic from them.
How many people do use those smaller search engines?

I don't know how big Ask.com is ... but I recently started receiving a steady (but small) number of visitors from that SE.

it doesn't hurt to submit to all the search engines ;)

I've seen bots on some smaller site that where directly from small SE's

What I have read is that the only utility to submitting to those smaller engines is to help your SERP and PR by having inbound links but I doubt that is true. It doesn't add up as Google and Yahoo know darned well that anyone can do that and I don't believe therefore that they ascribe any significance to those inbound links.

ask.com is still one of the bigger search engines, I normally see a few visitors from ask per day. Nothing mind blowing but every little bit helps.

How did you submit your site to 150 small search engines, was it the ISEDN

Ask is still the 4/5 biggest engine according to the amount of searches done in a month ( i read it a few months ago)
