Hi all, I'm looking for a design for a new social network I'm planning, eCollegey[dot]com. This will be an Irish social network, for college students from all the colleges around the country. I'm looking for a nice, web 2.0 style design, that will appeal to the 17-24 age demographic. I want a fairly unobtrusive header/logo combination, similar to the likes of digg.com, bebo.com, that will be present sitewide. Colour wise, I haven't really envisaged anything yet, but I want it to be quite clean, with a generally bright theme, possibly a predominantly white page/background with 3 or 4 colours implemented in the page that are present in the logo. This does not need to be coded. EDIT: Here are some guidlines for content of concept: -Featured Members section (3 members) -Leading College (this will be one college, based on number of members, and will be an image and text displaying number of members and latest member) -Most Popular Event -Login Area -Latest News section An area for flash (undecided on dimensions, feel free to work this around the rest of your design) Page header and footer will be 100% width, main content will be approx. 1000px That's all I can think of right now, standard rules as follows: -The prize of $150 will go to the top design -I reserve the right to not choose a winner should none of the designs appeal (though I hope this doesn't happen ) -I will run the contest for two weeks, but can close or extend at my discretion (again this should hopefully not happen) Thanks guys, and if you plan to submit an entry please post here, no PM's! Good luck!
What kind of platform are you going to be running you social network on? This will give people an idea of how to create their concepts.
I'm thinking page theme concepts. Whenever you create a design you begin by looking at the complete picture - not just throwing a few fonts and pretty web2.0 colors together and hoping to hit the lottery. Since there is no names, no dimensions, and all you've referenced is web2.0 - i'm wondering what you're going to be running on to give a better idea to the design. Are you going with a forum, CMS, blog, or have you purchased some social network script that you're building your theme from..... Perhaps a bit more thinking on the site is needed for your concept?
Thanks for clarifying TightWad. The platform will be a custom CMS, very much built around individual user profiles, and then grouped by the colleges users are a member of. Beyond this, the standards in the social networking industry will apply [i.e. photos, videos, music, events(more primary than many other social networks due to the college basis and the many events that take place yearly in Irish colleges) etc. along with some other unique features I am developing]. As I will be personally developing the site, I will be capable of expanding the winning design to suit my needs, but the reason I am here first in honesty is because I lack the artistic mind to develop initial concepts In all probability, I shall probably hope to work alongside the contest winner in furthering the design as I need to, on a pay-by-task basis. I hope this answers your question, I think you are right though and shall edit my initial post with some guidelines later this evening.
Hi guys, Thanks for the entries so far, here's some feedback: @jwilkins Thanks for your entry. The general layout of content isn't bad. However, the actual design really isn't up to par I'm afraid. @megaxx This has gone in the opposite direction to jwilkins entry with regard to layout and content, there isn't enough to make it interesting. Design wise, it's better, but is too flat and monotone for my liking. Thanks for the entry none the less. @Darkrider Thanks for posting, I look forward to your entry.
Heya how's this? Colors and positions fully customizable as always. Sorry I have to run soon so it's not quite finished content wise but the main idea is there. Feedback appreciated
