A television producer searches through potential guests by looking through the thousands of entries that they receive. A producer then contacts the people who's stories are interesting enough for the show. If the guests accepts the offer to be on the show, the producer sits down with the executive producer and lets them know who has accepted. If the executive producer approves, the network flies the guests out and yes, puts them up in a hotel. The producer then goes over what is acceptable, what isn't acceptable, what would be the "wow factor", what exactly they're looking for, etc. In conclusion, the story that they are telling is real with a few dramatizations.
