I never liked optimization for adsense. For me, you should spend 30 initial minutes on that and never touch it again. Optimization is nothing when you don't have the more important factor to earning: traffic. That's what everyone should be focused on in the long-term.
Great tips but I guess CTR improves automatically with the increasing number of traffic. I prefer to place on above the fold as most of the visitors spend their eyes on it while loading.
