Am I Losing My Mind Or Is The Link To The Members List Gone?

I was sure the link to the members list was in the Quick Links drop-down section?

Is it in another place?:eek:

EDIT: I am not losing it. This used to be the link: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/memberlist.php

and this is what I get when visiting it!!!

Sorry! The administrator has disabled the list of members.

Noo its not pointless. I had a buyer whom I had contacted 3 months before. The PM got deleted after 90 days and I need to find him and I cant without memberlist. If I get access to memberlist, I can try searching the name and get his profile after which I can PM him and maybe he can purchase again.

If there is any other way to do it, please tell me. I know his part of his name and I need to search usernames to get his profile.

    Thanks

Sorry, not coming back. It was mostly used by spam bots harvesting users. But more importantly, it needs to use a SQL query that can't hit indexes, so the larger the user base becomes, the longer the query takes. In the case of 300,000+ users here, during peak times it could take 2 minutes to generate one page of it, locking the users table, which in turn locks nearly every other query going on within the forum until it finishes. It's a big, big part of why the forum DB servers would more or less seize up sometimes.

Just do a site: search at google with the members name. It'll bring up their profile :)

Well, Shawn is right. Because it needs much resources to run SQL queries, also spammers are using it to send bulk PM's. I saw some PM bots in Buy/Sell section. Even they banned multiple times, they come again. So disabling member list is a good decision. Anyway we must make a database to get client details in personally. It's a responsibility of us(Not in DP)
    Thanks

Also if you are searching for a PM that was deleted (and you have PM notification turned on via email), you should have it in your email (with the entire PM).

Backing up PMs should always be done before deleting them too. I have copies of PMs since Auguest 2007.

Well another way to get it checking iTraders, as we know most of us exchange iTraders with each others! Second option is enter ID in Search option, you will get it from search results too!

The best way is to not delete emails. Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo!, Gmail all give HUGE space for ur emails. Just delete spams as soon as u get them and u'll never run out of space. Even Google Apps gives a lot of space.

This thread should be closed now as its been answers+discussed :p

OK fair enough. I can understand the problems with server load for SQL queries. I don't have a forum as big as DP but I have locked it up from intense server queries before. I do backup all of my PM's and I will use the search function as suggested.

Thanks for being there and providing a response Shawn. Much appreciated!

    Col :)

This is the method I use if I need to find a member also...

    site:forums.digitalpoint.com username

Or I just start typing their username in the member field on PM and let it autofill if I want to message them.

When you do business with someone, or want to save them as a contact for any reason, it's a good idea to add them to your buddy list. You can open that and get to anyone's profile with just one click. It's kinda like creating your own private, customized Member List. :D

Why not make it only available for certain users? x posts, x rep and have to be registered.

I've used it a few times to search for memebers i've had dealings with in the past. (Couldn't find the old PMs, nor link to their profile).

But that search box is good as even if you have forgot the few characters of a username it opens up itself and displays there like in this pic--
