14 reasons why Facebook is BS for affiliate marketing

Today I got my Bank Account charged again from FB. No problem, but it gave me some time to think about this new medium for Advertisement.

I run about 7 affiliates campaigns with FB and nothing good came out it. I made some cpa leads, but I spent way more that I made.

I thought about if I did something wrong. I wrote down 14 reasons why in my humble opinion FB is BS for Affiliate Marketing.

(Don't get me wrong...maybe I am not using the right method)

    Here I go :

    1) The title gives you a restriction of words. This is a pain when you have a catchy title for your offer but you can not implement it...I'm 1 or 2 words over...so I must think of a new title.

2)The title can not contain any brand name. (Why? If they allow me to be their affiliates, I should use their name as much as I want to)

3)The picture can not be too eye catchy or provocative. (This really piss me off)

    4) The picture can not contain the product with its brand name or logo.

    5) The text can not contain non even one exclamation point (!) no (&) and no abbreviations like (S&H). I am sure ...I think you are also not allowed to use more than one Capital letter.

    6) Clicks are way to expensive especially for US.

    7) If you decide to run your offer by 1000 impression at the time instead of paying for clicks, FB will use all your daily budget in matter of seconds.

    8) Can not schedule at what time you want your add to show up.

    9) Can not schedule which days you don't want your add to run.

    10) After you fill out the form to complete your add, the daily budget is set up automatically to $ 25, you can change it, but if you forget....

    11) When an add is dissaproved..there is no a specific reason inside the email, just a link to the advertising terms & conditions....basically they are telling you ...go figure it yourself.

    12) The more you target your audience the more the clicks costs! I wonder why FB don't you keep the same costs, after all a click is a click even if more targeted there is no assurance the visitor will go for it.

    13) If inside the landing page there is not total price of the service or the product , your add won't get approved.

    14) They charge your account on the same moment you get the email of how much you being charged. No mercy. We want your money now.

(I tell you I got give credit to Google Adwords.... Google unlike FB has the decency to send you an email couple of days before charging your account.)

I am done with Face Book Advertising. FB is great if you own a small business and you want to target a specific area or some user for a particular zip code.

FB maybe is great for big corporation with money to burn due to the fact that a vertical banner cost $30000 a month to be displayed.

Let me know your comments. And for those out there getting rich with Face book, don't just tell us how much you make...tell us how you do it instead

    Opinions and comments welcome...

Dude, tell me about it. My CPA stuff NEVER converted through FB.

Not only that, 99% of the time they declined my ads.

The only stuff that converted was funny countries (Scandinavia and stuff)

I don't think anyone has had luck with facebook. Everyone has terrible conversion rates. I did a test run and my conversion rate was terrible. Luckily I had $400 free credits to play with otherwise I would be upset.

Facebook is terrible, I feel like they just have someone that sits there and clicks on ads so that you/they meet the quota they promised you.

Facebook marketing has always been lame. Myspace wipes the floor with them via using Google.

The main reason is that just about everyone who goes there stays for a minute or two to poke around, and then leaves.

I mean, think here...how long do YOU stay?

Also, a lot of the brain-dead, mindless go there. They make for lousy potential customers.

Like Twitter, it's just a highly-overrated site. They may have big numbers, but it means Jack shit if a lot of the people going there are mindless, and they don't stay for very long.

It's not really a good content site where many stay to read.

That's the one thing you have to keep in mind when advertising.

Pick sites that you think its visitors may stay and look around, read for awhile.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you guys on this one!

I think it depends what you advertise. I use FB advertising for my website and it works extremely well.
I spend $5 a day and get an average of 100 visits a day. Out of which, usually around 5-10 join my website. That's around 66 cents per user which is much cheaper than some other types of advertising I've used.

Then again, the service I want people to sign up to is free so it's a completely different story. It all depends on your market. I spent ages editing ads and finding the right country to advertise in to manage to get 100 clicks per $5 (5c per click!).

It also seems that regardless of whether you specify keywords in your campaign or not, the cost is the same. This is a bit tricky as in reality even people who are not 'tagged' with that keyword might be interested in your offer. So what I do is advertise to the entire country, but make my advert extremely targeted. You will waste a few clicks, but there is a higher chance somebody might like what you offer!

Copper12, I totally agree with you. They think they are the shit because they have big numbers. Soon they will have even bigger numbers but no much of revenues. Let's see!

You must have a good advert up. I think dating sites and freebie offers would do quite well. A few years ago the CTR of Facebook ads was rumoured to be around 0.04%.:D
