I need a logo for my news/entertainment site along with a header to complement that logo. The one on the current theme is far too bland. Specifications for Logo: -Professional Appearance -Vector and PSD image -Can be used for print media like business cards and brochures. -Must use some of the colors from the current theme -Please include only the two main words in the domain, no dashes or the .com TLD. -Please find a suitable way to denote the "commentary" aspect of the site, such as a talking icon, etc. -(Not a requirement just an idea) One idea I had was to duplicate the look of a local news logo like this: http://killerbeehockey.com/wp-content/uploads/Channel-5-News-Logo.jpg These are the minimum requirements. I encourage as much creativity as possible as I personally had trouble coming up with ideas. Specifications for Header: -For the header I would like a simple yet elegant design. MSNBC's site came to mind. I like those bars in the header: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/. Anything that flows with the site yet doesn't detract attention from the content will work. Just nothing very bland. -Perhaps a collage of news events with a low opacity would work? Time: I will be running this contest for 2 days (until 03/07/10). If a winner is chosen before then, everyone will be publicly notified in the thread. Compensation: $120 via Paypal. Cant wait to see your designs!
here is my entry for header, Logo can be easily added, I think u should split the prize money in to 60 for logo and 60 for header, Many designers who are master in headers but weak in logos can also win individual prize thanks here is the live site preview
here's my try. top part is the logo. lower part [the blue part rectangular like banner] is the banner.
looking at the actual Header image of the site, this is what's there now... Is that correct? If so, the above should be used as the base dimensions template for future design submissions to help insure it works right with the site
Hi Scorpion Agency, Correct that is the header image, albeit just the upper part. The theme draws the two images below for other parts of the site, like the sidebar.
As for feedback: Feizar - this competition for a logo + header. Since the header is not very complicated, this competition will not be split 50/50. He/She who does the logo will also do the header. As far as your design, I just said use the MSNBC header as inspiration. I didn't say I wanted the exact replica of the header. My point in linking to that was to show is meshes well with their logo and the rest of the site. I want something that blends well with the rest of the site and logo. Their header obviously does not. Jtoms Liking the concept so far, especially the quotation marks. The "el" part needs to stand out more, and I would like to see how this goes along with the existing template, if you could possibly paste it on there with your header. If you could somehow incorporate a news aspect to the whole thing without changing the current look too much, that would be perfect. elli boy - Please read the comment to Feizar. Also, the logo is too bland and seems to be a copy of Jtoms. Quixlab - Good colors but far too simplistic. None of them evoke a news concept or commentary aspect. Masjacky - Too bland and doesn't look unique at all. Cissed - Bland and no concept of news or commentary.
Scorpion - Interesting concept but I don't think the yellow ties in well with the theme. I would like to see the icon evoke the idea of commentary, and the logo as a whole to have a "news-like" feel. The font used is a bit too bland. There shouldn't be a hyphen in the logo, just a space between the two words. The "El" should be lowercase. As for the header, forget what I said about the MSNBC thing. I got a lot of people confused. I was trying to raise the point that their header, while not very complicated, is elegant and works well with everything else on their site. The header here can be as simple as a gradient. It just needs to blend well with the rest of the theme and with the logo. So the creative direction with the header is ultimately yours.
DCStudio, The logo you submitted doesn't really follow the criteria I established above. Please reread and make another submission if it so interests you.
