Hi there! Here's with changes in the color. Thanks for the feedback.

 

I've seen a few nice designs for emblems on star.co.uk - if you look at hosting on the homepage the barrell there is quite nice and may work. The same applies with the graph on financeguides.co.uk - These are just ideas and may or mayn not help.

Okay some feedback:

surenther - Sorry, but the whole design isn't working for me. It's a little too flashy. It seems the design would belong on a games site. This is a serious financial site.
gorgon - i like the letter colourings, but both emblems don't work for me.
zyndtel - it's pretty good - but i don't really like the $ sign in the oil drop - maybe you could change the drop?
renderwork - I like them both - both are fresh, yet professional - not too sure of improvements yet, i'll need to think about it.

I put a crude oil price dashboard on the right of the logo. I found a site where they give you code to place it on your website. So I'm not sure if you would want to do that. Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks!

 

OK, oil pump gone, and now replaced with a new icon which could represent oil and price in one simple design:

Thanks everyone – I have more feedback for you:

mrEdesign – thanks for making the revision. After thinking about it I’m afraid it’s not the direction I’m looking to go in – it just seems a little busy and somewhat confusing.
Zyndtel – The top one is the most interesting – but It seems a little gimmicky though – it may work with another emblem – The black you have splashing out of the oil barrel is very nice – the darker the better.
Hipstick – I’m really starting to like your design – it’s professional & classy – even my dad likes it. I’m not keen on it though after the red line – if you could try something else that would be great (you got the chart from the guy whose going to be my main competitor in the SERPS.)
Renderwork – I think the top design is very good – it’s professional and clean – is it possible to use darker and bolder colours – it would be good to see a few variations.
Aderain – I like what you have done with the bottom design with the dollar behind the words. But I’m not keen on the dollar – if you could change that for something else it would be in with a shot. – But I don’t want it to overshadow or take away from the domain name.

Right the top 4 designs so far are:

Hipstick – post 49 – looks great up to the end of the red graph line – would like to see a different theme.
Renderwork – post 50 (top design)
Anidesign – post 28 – clean and crisp – but it won’t win in it’s present form.
Aderain – post 51 (bottom design) – needs to lose the $ sign though.

I like what I’m starting to see now – but there does seem to be a problem with the emblems – they just aren’t doing it for me. What I’m after is something neat / simple and subtle – NOT glaring and obvious.
I’ve put down a few links to logos I think are subtle and neat – which hopefully can be used as inspiration:

FEEDBACK:

Aderain – I think your bottom design with the bubbles is pretty neat. I’d say you’re definitely in the top 3 with that design.
Hipstick – thanks for the revisions – I really only like the logo you have done so far – but there seems to be I’d be interested in seeing how it looks if the P was the same size as the O. Also if the letters in black were darker – same with the red. Possibly do something with the emblem as well as it just seems there’s something missing – the above links may help. Still yours is currently in first place.
Gorgon – thanks for the revisions, sadly it doesn’t work for me. Subtelty is the key going forward.
Jokomamamita – Sorry but it doesn’t work for me – I like what you did with the I – but the emblem isn’t right.
Renderwork – the top design is pretty interesting – as I said above – I’m after subtlety and although your emblem is very nice it’s not subtle. Still it’s a good design.

Please keep the entries coming in. I think we’re definitely on the right path and please take a look at the listed links above as I think once the issues with the emblem is cracked we’ll be nearly there.
