Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking about you. The moment you realize this, you will be deprived from the burden that most of the people carry - the "me" kind of thinking. Then it is really important that you dissect your web site if I can put it that way. Try to see what others in the field do. And, by God, do not copy them cause you would end up being average and ignored by people. Try to stay on track but with a little bit of new and unique features and or content. Something that will be worth noticing and talking about is what makes the word of mouth effect work. Join social networks or networking sites which shelter people from your target audiance. Get into their brains and start learning from them. Once you get to know what your audiance wants you can implement the changes. The rest is pretty straight forward, some stumbles and diggs will get you the initial kick start. Building squidoo lenses and other UGC sites that discuss a topic related to your site's topic is the way to go. Telling stories and creating emotions in your readers will make them visit your lenses where you could be promoting your site, blog forum or whatever. You could even use squidoo to build landing pages, sales letters or use them as a way to promote an affiliate product. These are some hints of mine. P.S.: DP - this forum is pure Gold.
