WHen people submit links to your directory, do you allow keyword titles? What I mean is, if the site seems non-MFA, the description seems decent enough but the title is simply a keyphrase such as electric hybrid cars for sale orsomething similar do you accept it? Where do you draw the line? Here are a few more examples: Online Pharmacy Website Directory Common Baby Names
As long as the title makes sense to a human visitor and isn't a blatant form of keyword-stuffing, I usually let it go; however, we've not set forth a policy and work on a case-by-case basis.
If it's descriptive and not over saturated, I will allow it. That also applies as to whether or not the submissions was featured or not, on some of my directories. It's a case by case really. But I don't condone keyword stuffing, period.
As dsendecki said, as long as the title makes sense to a human visitor and isn't a blatant form of keyword-stuffing. I see nothing wrong with the examples you gave.
Yeah im fine with it, its part of the benefit for the submitter isn't it, they want to rank for keyword phrases. As long as words dont get repeated in the title 3 times or something like that.
The anchor text is an incentive for the users to submit their sites to our directories. Hence completely disallowing them is not possible. However any spammy titles will have to be declined.
It’s how I prefer it now but being an old school editor it took a while for me to allow it. I still don’t allow anchor text on most free submissions.
Think about it from a site visitor's perspective. Which is more likely to get their attention - <some company name that may give no clue as to what they sell or do> or <Professional Widget Repairs>? I had started using the <company name> - <keyword> concept but didn't like the way that looked. As long as the title is informative rather than spammy I keep it or edit it to make it better.
I am having too much fun today with the new toy on my directory.... I have not spent much time here. Its all Robs fault... Any way I think both stoner and mikey make very good points and when it comes to anchor text you kind of think of it as a business sign as your walking down the street. Do you see signs that say "Free Car Insurance Quotes" on the front of buildings or do you see "Allstate Insurance"??? Free car insurance quotes may be important to visitors but is more of a description than a title and would not belong in the anchor text imo....
i will take a look it first... if they using domain as a title i will change it to related they site business... if i not lazy, i will doing research for it and change for the better one. It's important as we know our directory need top SEO because we promote another site... and it's all for me... i don't know how another's directory owners doing for they directory....
I think we all know by now that a wide variety of titles will do you a lot better in the long run. You have to be somewhat flexible with titles because there are just so many two or three word combinations you can use before you end up at the beginning again. Its simply impossible to be too strict with titles and not have duplicate content. For instance... those sites that demand I use the "official site name" as the title are useless to me and for SEO.
It's a case by case for me but I can say if it has a pipe "|" in it or it is longer than the site description (i get many of these for some reason) it automatically gets rejected.
Yep, no reason why your title couldn't be "Pentecostal Bible Studies" or "Free Pentecostal Sermon Central". Putting the pipe between the phrases does 2 things, first it puts "Pentecostal" in the title twice which I consider too spammy for my directory, and it makes it too long.
I couldn't help but notice the blog directory in your sig has "Blog Directory" twice in the title. Would you accept your own site? Not trying to start anything, just curious.
