#11 Ranking in Google for Keyword, Site not listed by Yahoo

Discussion in 'Yahoo' started by mmorpgfocus, Nov 21, 2009.

Can anyone explain how a site can be ranked #11 for an extremely (extremely - 26,000,000+ results on Google I'm #11) competitive keyword by Google but not show up at all for that keyword in Yahoo?

What does one have to do to appear on Yahoo? This is bizarre.

Google generally spiders quicker than yahoo so if your site is new it could just be google have indexed it quicker

The site is new and we have some very serious industry interviews linked from authority sources - Sony, etc.

As well as plenty of legitimate lower quality backlinks.

That is why it amazes me that Google is the only engine to rank our site properly.

Yahoo seems to want me to pay $400 a year to be in their index.

NO THANKS! I am not paying to be indexed. The site is very very high quality and speaks for itself!

Google has not kept me at #13-#11 for months for no reason.

The only thing I can think of is we launched in June so it is newer.

Yahoo wants you to pay? Since when do you have to pay to submit to any search engine?

maybe you have indexed due to your backlinks and yahoo is yet to reach those links.
Google relies more on links than on page optimization.

The Yahoo directory and their index are different. The directory does cost money, but their index just takes time so be patient and do not expect it to happen at the same time Google indexes.

Yahoo usually takes longer to get indexed but once it does generally you will be ranked higher.

It might help to be found in some of Yahoo's social sites - Delicious, Flickr, etc - they ten to be a bit partial to their own properties...

I can't get my site listed on Yahoo but it was listed by Google within days of opening.
I've added my site to the Yahoo directory without any joy. I've setup a Yahoo group in the hope that it will get listed.
Could someone explain what is meant by "back links"? Thanks.

Use the Yahoo! properties and also focus on the webmaster tool for yahoo for faster and higher indexing/ranking

well, obviously they have different algorithm so its better not to expect some things that you have on Google will also be on Yahoo.

Both search engines rank sites in different ways. Also, I had the same problem before. I went after a keyword with 30 million results with medium competition and got #4 in a week on Google. On Yahoo!, it took two months until I finally saw my site on the first page of Yahoo! It'll take longer on Yahoo than it does on Google.
