10mbs or 100mb uplink ? pls explain

    I wanna get a dedicated server.. but when choosing the bits, i see this

    Uplink Port Speed
    10Mbps Uplink
    100Mbps Uplink [price: $10.00]

    What does the 10mbs uplink mean and 100mbs uplink which cost more. How will it affect my site and what benefits would there be of getting the 100mbs instead.

    100 mbit is good if your site has aloooooot of visitors so it can handle bandwidth :)

    Basically, i think uplink port pushes your bandwidth so 100 mbit is better then 10mbit and will push bandwidth faster :) (Correct me if i am wrong :eek:)

    It's how fast users can load the pages/download the files. 10mbps = 10megabit per second = 1.25 megabytes per second. I can download at 1/3 that speed, so 3 of me = slow for all others.

    100 mbps = 12.5 mb/s = 10 times as fast. You'd need 30 of me downloading files.

    Most sites do not need 100mbit ports...are you going to be running extremely high bandwidth site(s) on this new dedi?

    i think uplink means the speed of upload of the server its the speed ur site is transferred to ur users so the more the better

    I got a free 100MB when I registered for my dedicated server.

    I think you are correct when saying "i think uplink port pushes your bandwidth so 100 mbit is better then 10mbit and will push bandwidth faster"

    Port uplink speeds are a measure of capacity, not speed. A 10Mbps and 100Mbps port run at the same speed, but you can push more data through a 100Mbps port (it is a bigger pipe).

    Unless you are on a tight budget, it is better to get a 100Mbps port to ensure that your peaks of traffic won't fill up the 10Mbps port and cause slowdown.
