Hello, some hosting companies offer dedicated servers with 10mbps unmtered bandwidth or 100mbps unmtered I know that 10mbps means around 3300GB of monthly bandiwdth , ok if my my site push more than +3300B in the first week before month end what will happen do they suspend my server or limit my traffic usage or what ? please can some one here clarify this point ? thanks
10Mbps does not necessarily mean 3300GB of bandwidth per month. Most of the time 10Mbps unmetered just means your server is throttled at 10Mbps so you can't go over it at any point. That's how it works for the servers running this forum... We pay for the connection, not bandwidth used.
If you continuously (30 days and 24 hours) use 10mpbs then also you can use maximum 3000 GB bandwidth in 30 days. With 10mbps speed it is not possible to exceed this limit until there is problem with switch configuration. Also, if host provides 10mbps unmtered bandwidth then why you are worrying about bandwidth. so you mean I can consume whatever bandwidth I want even more than 30,000GB a month without a problem , but the connection speed will be limited to 10mbps , is this what you mean ? then why they call unmtered if I have to pay for extra bandwidth that goes beyond 3300GB a month , they should clearly say you have only 3300GB of banwidth every month Please can you explain to me what difference between 10mbps port and 10mbps unmtered bandwidth ? so again it's not unmtered bandwith why they call unmtered if I can only consume only that amount of bandwidth
Because unmetred is not the same as unlimited, you can push as much bandwidth as you want over a 10mbit port. Same with 100Mbps unmetered you can push ~ 33000GB.
Sure... if you have some sort of quantum time machine. Not sure how you are going to transfer 30TB in 30 days with a 10Mbps connection.
If u choose this speed and if u use the connection fully all the time then only u will consume 3300 gb bandwith
I think the capacity of the pipe is limited plus they put several customers on to that 10mbps pipe. The more usage the slower it gets so we wouldn't get all the bandwidth promised?
If it 10mbps dedicated port then this will share with other server and you can use upto 10mbps speed for your server and if it is 10mbps unmtered then it may be shared with other server and you will have to clarify this with your provider. However the term may be used differently by different providers. I suggest to clarify this before you purchase any server. Kailash
well if server provider gave u 10mbps unmetered, theoretically u can use: 10mbps / 8 = 1.25MB/sec (thats the highest speed u can get from the port) now let say if he use that for 24hr(1 whole day) = 24hr X 60 min X 60 sec = 86,400 Sec so now in one day u can he consume (max) = 86,400sec X 1.25 MB = 108,000 MB bandwidth, which is equal to 108,000/1024 = 105.46875 GB now max u can consume 105.46875 GB in a day. if there is 30 day in a month, theoretically u can consume = 30days X 105.46875 = 3164.06 GB per month so here you go.... you can consume MAX 3164.06 GB or 3.089 TB per month from 10mbps unmetered line. Equation PROVED ........LOL...... -TA
Depends if the port is full or half duplex, if it's full duplex, he can push 1.25MB/s Up and 1.25MB/s down at the same time doubling the bandwidth he can use. If it's half duplex he can only push 1.25MB/s either up or down at the same time.
wow you good in math thanks for this explaination , thank you guys now the whole thing is very clear to me
