complete noob to adwords and need some advice/help on how to get the best of it?

I am trying to advertise my diet website. Idea is to get people to my website and then for them to click on my adsense ads or affiliates.

    any help would be appreicated.

try with small quantity of keywords, maybe one keyword in ad group. Check the ads - will they attract visitors?

Try very few, highly targeted keywords.

Sometimes it is a very long way to get to a well clicked campaign. In my case I try to build 4-5 campaigns for just 1 keyword. After some days / weeks i check the click trough an modify the 2 campaign with lowest clicktrough. After a while you get 1-2 campaigns with a good clicktrough (and more important) with a good sale trough

Go for only phrase and exact keywords but make sure you do some keyword research using the google adwords keywords tool

Assuming that you've turned off the Content Network in the Campaign Settings, then there are three (main) reasons that you'd have a low clickthrough rate.

    1) People aren't noticing your advert.
    2) You aren't offering what they were searching for.
    3) You look unreliable or uncompetitive (relative to the other adverts).

Your advert needs to be eyecatching, and your keywords need to match what you actually do/sell.
