Site wide links are just links on everypage of the site pointing to one site. Search engines are discounting and penalising them as its an easy was to generate thousands of back links in one go.

Would that be a link to the main index page (on every page) or would that be a collection of the same links on every page pointing to a different site?

Typically, if you bought site wide links on a site with 500 pages, there would be a link at the footer of every page of that site which would point to your site.

A lot of very good tips.
Question about site wide links: Who do these hurt? both parties or just the site being linked to?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought an important part of navigation is to have a link to the main page on every other page

I am slightly confused by the term "site wide link."

Wow. Didn't know that about site-wide links. Anyone know if a link in a WordPress sidebar is considered site-wide?

External site-wides are the problem. Not internal website links.

Regarding point 2, won't it be better to avoid meta description to avoid duplication penalty. If you do not add meta description, it won't be counted as duplication.

I have a problem understanding #9 which reads in part...

If you own a website that contains 80% Google...

...with the link forwarding to a page which explains how YouTube is now also becoming part of the global information censorship.

My question is -- what are the defining characteristics of "a website that contains 80% Google"?

It was a serious joke, about Philipp Lensen's blog, Google BLogoscoped. You just didn't got the ideea mainly because perhaps you don't know him.

    I mean everybody knows Philipp.

Hi, Mezei, May I ask you one question? If I have links from internal pages many thousands back to my homepage, it will be count as spam or devalued?

Okay, so what you're telling me is that the 90/101 Marketing Ideas actually has hidden "jokes" implanted that only insiders will recognize, right? Shouldn't you have some sort of disclaimer telling people they shouldn't take all the "tips" seriously? How will people new to Web marketing know whether to take your tips as factual suggestions, or just humor?

In any event, since I now understand that #9 is only meant as a joke, can you explain what the punch line of the joke is? I don't get the humor. Also, for the benefit of others, how many of the "tips" are jokes and which ones are intended as educational? Thanks.

Read the thread again. Only sitewides from Site A linking to a single page on Site B are bad. Just a sitewide on Site A linking back to Site As homepage is just good usability. Internally, there's little yuo can do wrong.

Chill out dude. You should never put all your eggs in one basket and totally rely on just one internet source. Cristian writes quality stuff and is one of the most knowledgeable SEO's in the world but even so, do yourself a favour and get in the habit of always drawing your own conclusions based on multiple trusted sources.

That way it doesn't matter whether Cristian has some hidden jokes in there or not - it won't affect you.

I was asking some legitimate questions -- not that I personally need his guidance -- mostly just for the benefit of others who might fail to understand the humor (which I still don't).

As for "chilling" -- again, my remarks were made to another person (a prick). And just so you'll know, I do indeed draw my conclusions from multiple sources, the most trusted of which is myself and my own years of successful marketing experience.
